I'm 18 and want a handgun, is there any possible way to own one?

You can get a conversion cylinder to switch an 1858 Remington to shoot 45 Colt ammo - only black powder or low powered "Cowboy" loads. Go to Midwayusa and run a search on this string - "remington 1858 conversion cylinder". I won't venture a guess re. the legal aspect of such a conversion done...

    Marlin 336 reliability

A browning BLR *might* be *slightly* more solid and accurate, at a much higher price than a Marlin. It is basically a bolt-action operated by a lever. See http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/family.asp?webflag_=003B&catalog_=B&content=BLR-Rifles

    Weird groups

The OP can't do that - his problem is that his POI shifts when he reloads. The early Ruger 44 only holds IIRC 5 rounds, so he is forced to reload after 5 rounds.

<<added scopes or kept the open sights>> A conventional scope vs open sights are not the only options - there are also "scout" scope mounted scopes, red dot sights, and head-up displays.

Rifle Trifle : or How I ran out of ammo and need help picking a cheaper rifle/caliber

<<im off to college (not boot camp). There im going to be in a pretty strict ROTC unit>> Do you think you might actually join the military at some point? If so, you can get a .22lr version of the AR-15/M16 which would be excellent preparation for the "real deal". They run about $500.

New Ruger 6.8 Ranch Rifle Accuracy

You can greatly shorten the break-in process by "fire lapping" the barrel. Supplies can be obtained from http://www.neconos.com I had an early .223 Mini which I experimented with extensively to improve the accuracy. I found that it responded well to the exact same reloading techniques that...

    Pocket carry

That's incorrect - an empty PM9 is slightly heavier (at 15.9 oz, including magazine) than an empty 642 (at 15.0 oz). When loaded, the weight difference is even greater.
