I have a Taurus PT99 and I love it, and while i've never shot the PT100/101, I would recommend it. Out of the all the Taurus-bashing i've come across on gun forums, i've never heard a disparaging remark about the PT92/99/100/101.
I had one for a while and loved it. I had the mag problem as well, until I realized that I was hitting the mag release while shooting. I sold it to a friend as his first gun, and he has had no problems.
Btw, Taurus CS has improved greatly in the past couple years.
MadMerc is right, there is no difference in grip size. I have owned two Berettas (a 92 Brigadier and M9) and I currently own a Taurus PT99 and their performance is nearly identical. I do prefer the Taurus a bit more though, do to the adjustable sights and accessory rail.
