I don't think this current strategy would even work for submarines. Any type of normal gun and bullet are utterly ineffective against anything underwater. I know Mythbusters and many other people have tested this before with almost every caliber under the sun. I think, if I remember correctly...

oh ok i didn't know the origins of the name. around here a throw away gun is any gun that you get rid of because it was used to commit a crime and it can't be traced back to you, i.e. a "throw away glock" or something along those lines.
