    9422 vs 39a

I own and fire all of them fairly regularly. The only one I've had to replace parts on are the Marlins. That danged ejector spring on the Marlins is a real pain in the ****, and they are the roughest action out of the bunch. Over the years, posters have told me that they haven't been fired...

    9422 vs 39a

Just a couple of clarifications, but the 9422 was never made in Japan...only in the USA. I do have some Winchester M52's made in Japan and they are fantastic rifles by any standard. Also, the Browning is not made of walnut and steel. It does have walnut, but the receiver is an aluminum alloy...

    Miroku 1886's. Winchester or Browning?

I would definitely go with the Browning SRC. None of the modern safety "features" and the thing is built like a tank. I have one of the SRC and it is one of the last rifles I would ever part with. Also, I can do without all of the laser/roll engraved gold filled extras. I'd be afraid to use it...

    Lever Action .22

Not sure what the makeup of the inner receiver is on the Browning. Just know that it isn't steel.

    Lever Action .22

I have one of the early Golden Boys from Henry that is now around 22 years old. I've put thousands of rounds through it without one single issue. It's accurate, looks good and is smoother than any other lever rimfire I own, out of about a dozen. I am aware of the materials used and am not...

    Winchester 69A age

The barrel markings would indicate post-war, starting around late '46. The fore-end of the stock could help narrow it down a bit, also. I would expect it to be slanted to the back, as the one in the photo below. The straight bolt was used up until '48. Here is a peep-sighted model of mine...

Getting Old; Need to Part With Some Rifles

All I can say is that I hope you get what you want out of them. It's always unfortunate when they no longer stay in the family...interest or not. However, you are fortunate that you only have three to unload. Many of us have been "accumulating" for years and have a much larger job ahead of us...

    Period optics on classic rifles

I also love the old Weaver scopes and have a few. Here are a couple of vintage Winchesters, a 72A in front and a 69A in the back. Both are wearing K model Weavers with the fine target dot reticle. A K3 on the 69A and K2.5 on the 72A. Both scopes are quite clear and work very well on these old...

    Milsurp Help

Here's the crest on the one I got from Sarco. It is marked 7.62 on the left side of receiver. I put a few NATO rounds through it early on without issue, but it has been semi-retired until I start handloading for it.

I had trade purposed to me the other day

Any other SKS...maybe. A Russian SKS...not for any Axis ever made unless it has a VERY nice scope attached. Maybe for a good older M70 or M700, but not an Axis. Look at the going (sold) prices for each and base your decision on that. It should clear up any questions that you currently have.

    Miroku Quality Control ?

I have a few of their rifles, including a Browning 1886 SRC that is one of my favorites. They have all been top notch in my opinion. But, as someone else stated, no one is perfect.

    .22 Tube Fed Bolt Actions?

I have a few of the Winchester model 72/72A's that are tube fed. They have been excellent rifles and great shooters. If you can find a 72A with a grooved receiver, then you would have a choice between open sights or a scope without drilling any additional holes. Here is a 69A (box mag) on top...

The year, 2010. What would you pay for Yugo M70?

I know that in 2007 the m70 underfolder could be had for 449.

Is it bad I want a M1 Garand in .308?

I have several Garands in '06 and always wanted to try out a 308, so when my son and daughter in law gave me a loose SA receiver for Christmas I knew exactly what to do with it. I sent the receiver/bolt to Shuffs to have a Criterion 308 barrel fitted. While that was in the works, I gathered up...

H&R m12 22LR training rifle. Tell me about these

I have a couple that I got from CMP back in the day and I think you could do a lot worse. They both shoot way better than I can, but one of them seems to shoot the cheap ammo quite a bit better than the other. I have tried some Eley Target in them, but I can't imagine what they'd do with real...

Not something you see every day - unissued Garand

I seem to remember these coming from Greece or Turkey...but I think it was Greece. They were still in original boxes of two rifles per box and selling for around $2500 per pair. Totally unissued and still in the uncut wrapper. Most were HRA, but I think there were some SA in there too. Amazing...

What to look for in a "shooter's" Garand?

Unless you know what to look for, I would certainly go through CMP. If there is an issue, they will make it right. Either get a service grade rifle, or one of the special grades that has been reworked by CMP. There are numerous Garands out on the open market that have been pieced together from...

    257 Roberts

mk25roberts, That's a beautiful featherweight in a much sought-after caliber. I'm just guessing, but it looks like an XTR push-feed from the 80's. Those are highly prized from what I've read. I have a few featherweights and love them all. They are among my favorite rifles, and I've had quite a...

    Surprise at the range

I've tried the electronic gadgets before and for me, the simple process of removing the bolt and looking down the bore works so much better. If you're using a target stand, be sure the cardboard/paper on the backing is fresh so you know the shot you took was the only one on the paper. I bought a...

    7mm-08, .308, or .270?

I have all three of those in the M70 actions and would give up the 270 before the other two. This is simply because I do like the short action over the long action. I also have a couple of M70's in 30-06 and would part with the 270 before getting rid of them. And don't take me wrong...there's...
