BP as a self/home defence weapon.

My garage weapon is a '58 Remington... but it's loaded with 250gr 45 Colts. I do it that way because I can, but I wouldn't feel a whole bunch less safe if I used cap and ball.

940 Benchmade Osborne Axis Lock Knife

I'm a skeert of S30V. Never tried to sharpen it, but I understand it can be very difficult and some say even un-doable in the field. My EDC has an ATS34 blade which I finally sharpened (easily) after nearly a year.

Who will make me a gun if I have CAD drawings?

Or an ABS printer. We have a Dimension Elite (~$50K ready to go). There are also "Service Bureaus" that will take your solid model and print it for you at very reasonable prices. Good way to develop your prototype, but they do have limitations such as accuracy and minimum feature size that would...

Who will make me a gun if I have CAD drawings?

SolidWorks is one of my favorite applications of all time. I took a 3-day class back in the mid-90s while I was working as a CNC programmer. Couple years later I went into management and have no real need to use it. But I find it very interesting that despite the fact I have a good deal of...

Who will make me a gun if I have CAD drawings?

If enrolled in a relevant educational class, you can get a copy of SolidWorks for $50 IIRC. Well, nothing has completely replaced the venerable Bridgeport, but they're not a cost effective way to make something as busy as a modern firearm. Just checked - SW Student version $90 and with...

Please help me make up my mind...

The loading lever on my Pietta '58 kept dropping after firing a load with >30gr BP and/or with cartridge rounds out of the conversion cylinder. I very carefully filled the latch until it fit better and have not experienced the problem since.

    New Pedersoli #209 Parlor Pistol

I wonder what kind of velocities would be generated.

Why do you shoot Black Powder

A combination of many of the reasons listed above, but mostly it's more challenging, it feels more appropriate to the primitive kinda guy I really am :) and I think the people are nicer. I also like sundance's answer. I don't hunt.... yet, but if I were to start, I have always felt I would like...

Who will make me a gun if I have CAD drawings?

The shop I manage charges ~$135/hr and a bit more for time spent in design-for-manufacturability work. Tolerance stacking and proper GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) are also very important. Knowing what one needs as far as tolerancing is another area where the uninitiated get into...

    Why are you at THR

Because TFL is down and I either find something to keep me occupied or Mrs. Grymster will. Update: That was a premature statement... just been assigned a trip to Costco and when I get back I need to start raking. I'm just holding her off while my laundry finishes.

    Recommend a BP Revolver

I'm sure they would have let you fondle a 2004 Founder's Reserve Cabernet.... well, if you ponied up the $120 or whatever is is now.:) The Culinary Institute is a pretty fun place to visit and a nice place to eat. Even the building as awesome.

    Recommend a BP Revolver

.... and don't start. It's addicting.:) Nothing like sitting out in the screen room on a warm autumn evening with a good smoke, three fingers of scotch and my Remmy to fondle.:) Mrs. Grymster sees things a bit differently though. Thanks for all the posts complimenting my photo. :) I'm...

    Recommend a BP Revolver

Here's my Pietta 58 Remmy. 5 1/2" barrel. Fit and finish are very nice. Action is sweeeeet! And she's very fun to shoot.:)

    Long gun for field protection

The Mosin might be good, but at 9 pounds, not real backpacking friendly. Especially when you folks have been known to shell out an extra $50 for a stove that shaves a few grams off total pack weight. Shotgun might be best and a single action revolver in 45 Colt for your hip. With the...
