What's The Gun Culture Like In Ireland?

Why would anyone drink Budwater in a country where real beer is readily available???

    CCW in NJ practically impossible?

So I'm in NJ now- left everything at home except the SAK. The town we're staying in is pretty nice, so needing a gun seems extremely unlikely. Plus, I see a cop at least every 10 minutes when we're out. I think not carrying actually makes it feel a lot more like vacation.

Should you let an intruder escape?

It seems to me that retaliation would be more likely if you encounter ended with the intruder being arrested or killed; that would be an escalation over the B&E. If somebody breaks into my house and then decides to run away when they hear me a'comin', great! About the last thing I want to do...

    Armored cars

It's not too late to start now! If you're going to spring for the coin to armor a car, I hope you're going to stick a BMG or two on there as well.

How to handle "hotel security" knocking on door?

I think I only worked at one hotel where I was given a master key, and it definitely wasn't an upscale establishment. Even then, we were instructed to do nothing more than call the police and watch the scene unfold from a safe distance if we observed some type of crime; definitely no entering...

How to handle "hotel security" knocking on door?

It's possible that another guest called the front desk and said, "There's a lot of noise and I think it's coming from room XXX," which would be the only reason I can fathom that he would have knocked on your door. A more appropriate reaction would have been to stand in the hallway for a moment...

How to handle "hotel security" knocking on door?

I used to be a hotel security guard. You can and should call the front desk to verify him, especially if he's not in a uniform. And if he's treating you badly you should tell the night auditor! Find out what company he works for and call them directly if you're really mad. A lot of the guys...

    door peephole viewer ?

The last place I lived had a peephole, and I pinned a circle of black construction paper over the inside that could be rotated out of the way when one needed to look through the hole. That way the light was always blocked and it just looked like it was dark inside. Of course, you may look for...

    Your Views On Weapon-Mounted Lights

Considering that I'm on THR right now because I was woken by the furnace panel falling off for no particular reason (which sounds just like a gang of ninjas breaking into your house when it wakes you up) and couldn't see a thing in the pitch black house, I think weapon-mounted lights are a great...

    Security in rented apartment

If you want a monitored security system, check out Lasershield. I wish I'd known about something like this when I was an apartment dweller. They even have a [somewhat expensive] attachment that will call the monitoring service via cellular network and a [more reasonably priced] device that...

    Remmy, Bushy, shotty, Winny, etc.....

I'm not sure I understand the big fuss; they're just nicknames. Is the issue that these particular names do not convey the grave tone with which we should speak of firearms?

Why do you own a gun?

I chose SD because that's the primary use of the guns I own. Also informal shooting and hunting. Also, I'm an American and I can if I wanna, darn it.

Housesitter/Petsitter and leaving your guns at home

Well I guess that's out of the question, then! What I usually do depends on who is sitting. If it's my parents or one of my shooting buddies, I lock up all the guns to protect them in the event someone breaks in since no one's here at night. If it's my 18 year old sister watching the house, I...

Housesitter/Petsitter and leaving your guns at home

I always call on friends or family to house sit when we go out of town, so locking them all in the safe is enough. I wouldn't be comfortable hiring some stranger to do it, even if they did check out.
