    V bevel vs Convex sharpening

A custom knifemaker, Ed Kalfayan, showed me how to sharpen a knife on a leather belt on a bench-top belt sander. I purchased my belts from Handamerican, not sure if they are still making the belts, but the belt and a bit of "rouge" is just the thing for a finish hone that is scalpel sharp...

    3.5" Vaquero help...

Hey all, Looking for a decent, but inexpensive holster for a 3.5" Ruger Vaquero. I'm new to the single action shtuff, so any advice you can give would be appreciated. I have a Galco I got second hand, but it has been damaged and is too hideous to be be worn publicly.:banghead: I cannot...

So everyone have a "nightstand gun"? Picture thread!

A box-stock Glock 17 stoked w/ Remington Golden sabers, and the Mossberg 500 Pa RifleGuy gave me on my 12th birthday stoked w/ #4 buckshot. Sorry, no pic's, but everyone knows what both guns look like!

Where to buy used Lyman Orange Crusher?

db4570 I've got an original Orange Crusher (orange!) sitting on the end of my bench. I'm upgrading equipment, so this has been relegated to stand-by status. If you are still looking, drop me an email at: [email protected]. I can email some pictures to you later if you like. I'm in...

Who Makes The Best Revolvers (SA & DA)?

Was, Sir, was. The question seems to imply current production. I tend to agree that the Python was just about the finest action to ever roll off an assembly line, but alas 'tis no more.

well slap my sister: I'm buying a gp100 and not just talking about it

I've got a 6" GP100 I bought back in '93 and it has been an excellent gun all these years. I have put in excess of 30,000 rounds through it and it is still reasonably acccurate and functions fine.

Who Makes The Best Revolvers (SA & DA)?

For sheer indestructability; the Ruger reigns supreme. For quality of fit & finish, reliable and smooth function and aesthetically appealing; the Smith & Wesson is the clear winner. That said, these are just the opinions of an almost-old curmudgeon!

Why Carry A Holstered Gun At Home?

And that would be an average week in Detroit.

Why Carry A Holstered Gun At Home?

Mmm. I live in the Detroit Metro area; feel unsafe at home? Yes. I feel a bit of precaution is in order. Violent, daylight hours home invasions are on the rise, and as our local economy makes great strides towards being the worst in the US (Thanks Jenny Gandholm!!) I suspect the problem will...

    Brake Cleaner ?

Wear some sort of glove. Those cleaners can cause chemical burns. I was working on my truck, replacing front wheel bearings, and had liberally applied brake cleaner to a rotor to remove my greasy fingerprints. Not paying attention, I didn't notice the cleaner pouring back towards me until...

    Brake Cleaner ?

Brake cleaners tend to leave no residue, many carb cleaners have additives that will leave a film on the gun. (Residue on brake rotors is evil...) A residue on the gun could be corrosive if not removed; the carb cleaners are designed to eat away varnish deposits from fuel, thus may end up...

What's good accurate .45 ACP ammo?

Accuracy of any given load may, and probably will, vary depending upon the gun it is fired in. This is more obvious in rimfires, but holds true for centerfires as well. A friend and I shoot nearly identical Kimbers; when firing the same load, from the same box of ammo, the guns will display...

What's that I smell? Hmm, smells familiar, I've smelled it before, could it be... it is! Bull###t! I smell Bull###t! :scrutiny:

Gun laundering (not what you think)

Wow. Late at night, while she's sleeping, slip out and sneak your balls out of her purse. I value my wife's opinions, seek her opinions often, but I'm not going to let her opinions be the sole deciding factor on anything. My wife dislikes my gun hobby, dislikes guns in general, but doesn't...

OK. so I just had a negligent discharge.

    Sometimes "experts" make me wonder...

The answer to your question is found within the question; they are both right, they are both wrong. From a testing standpoint, test conclusions are only pertinent to the conditions under which the test was conducted. Coming from an automotive engineering background, I confine my examples to my...

Am I too critical of some fellow gun owners here?

Oh my, this one has degenerated since I last checked in. Let's see; if it comforts you to have a gun on/near you at all times, by all means do so. If carrying more armament than the 3rd Ranger Battalion at Benning comforts you, makes you feel secure, eases your mind, etc., more power to you...
