Am 68 and always carry a keltec 32 and a S&W 15 38sp part time. The guns that I used to carry now hurt to shoot. Recently trades a 44 Bulldog for a S&W 15. For some reason a 1911 and Glock 21 are still pain free. It is hell to get old but will quit shooting when am in the grave. :D

For my wife a 22 S&W 422 is the best chose. She can and will practice with it and shoots it well enough for close quarters defense but will not shoot any larger calibers. For me any thing from 38/9mm up is OK, and if a 22lr is all I have it is OK too. :)

You need to shoot some of the revolvers that you are interested in before you buy. Small revolvers -j frame S&W and the like are hard to shoot accurately. Generally for new guns Ruger and S&W are your best chose with Charter arms a distant third IMHO. And the steel frame ones will handle recoil...

The original contender needs no work to shoot accurate. The contender II and encore may need a little trigger work but are usually OK. There is no need to tighten the barrel pin or reinforce the breach. Save your money for ammo.
