    Bolt-Action Tube-Fed .22LR?

If you are going to use iron sights, a Remington 34. If you plan on using a scope, a Remington 582. The Winchester 72 is nice as well, and none of them would be very expensive.

    Corn cob residue in cases

Last night I loaded some new .50 AE cases. I was using steel dies so I lubed the cases with Frankford spray-on case lube, then sized and belled the cases and tumbled them in corn cob media to remove the lube. After loading about 20 cases I noticed that quite a few of the others had some corn...

Removing belts from belted magnum cases

I think I might try the drill press idea, removing a little of the belt at a time until I can get a case to chamber. The instructions that came with the RCBS form die stated that some rifles would require that that the belt and/or rim might require trimming while other rifles would be able to...

Removing belts from belted magnum cases

I have a Steyr rifle chambered in 8x68 S. The only readily available source of brass that I am aware of is Norma factory loaded ammunition, which is kind of expensive. I bought one box of Norma loaded with Swift bullets, and I did manage to obtain 40 new Hirtenberger cases, but other than...

CMP RM1 Special Garand wait time shorter

Here are some pictures of my new CMP Special. The receiver is a Springfield from December, 1943. The barrel is a Criterion from December, 2008. Other than a Winchester safety, everything I have looked at is Springfield. The recoil spring is new. A real beauty as far as I'm concerned. I...

have you heard of this gun

It is probably a model 34, made from about 1933 to 1936, It was the first Remington .22 with a tubular magazine and was followed by the 341, 512 and 582. Remington did not produce a model 35.

CMP RM1 Special Garand wait time shorter

I sent my order for an RM1 special on August 28. I received an email today that it should be shipped today or tomorrow. At the time I ordered it I expected the wait time to be 6 months. Anyone who hasn't taken advantage of the opportunity to get a Garand from CMP is really missing out. A...

If Savage starting making the 99 would you buy it?

Savage did make a centennial model, the 99 CE in .300 Savage. It came in a fitted wooden case. Mine is unfired and the only 99 I've ever had. I've been thinking of getting one to shoot, preferably a .250. A new one in .257 Roberts would be nice.

CMP Garands - how's the supply?

I've had all of my CMP purchases delivered to my office, which is in a different state from my residence. You can specify the delivery address on the order blank and it does not have to be the address on your driver's license or other ID.

    Favorite .22 LR rifle?

My favorite .22 rifle is the Remington 34. It is a bolt action sporter with a tubular magazine. I have more expensive and more accurate rifles, but my first rifle, and still my favorite, was a model 34 that was given to me by my father for Christmas about 40 years after his father gave it to...

    Steyr Zephyr

I paid more than I wanted to but less than I would have.

    Steyr Zephyr

The Zephyr just arrived. I'll try to send a picture later. My first impression is that it has the smoothest action of any rifle I've ever handled. It is built like a Swiss watch. It shoulders nicely and comes to the intended target nicely. Barring the unforeseen, I will shoot it this...

    Steyr Zephyr

The gentleman from whom I purchased my Zephyr had 3 of them. He still has a 3/4 stock and a full stock, both with double triggers. I would rather have double triggers but beggars can't be choosers. He told me that he bought mine about 30 years ago and can't remember ever having shot it...

    Steyr Zephyr

I am about to find out. I bought one a few days ago on Gun Broker. It was shipped today. It is a 1958 full stock with a single trigger. Some people consider it to be the ultimate rimfire sporter, but there are some other good ones out there. The Anschutz 54, Winchester 52, Remington 40X and...

    Pistol primers in S&W 500

I just looked at some data from Hornady. They used either Winchester large pistol magnum primers or Winchester large rifle primers for their 500 S&W loads, so I think my loads with Federal large pistol magnum primers should be o.k. Hornady's and my loads use Starline brass.

    Pistol primers in S&W 500

I recently got a S&W 500. I wasn't really looking for one but it kind of found me anyway. I loaded several rounds with Federal large pistol magnum primers instead of large rifle primers before realizing my mistake. The two boxes of primers were side by side on my bench and I just picked up...

    Silly, dumb and dangerous!

Someone I know really well was loading his favorite load for a Remington 700 6.5x55 Swede: A Nosler 125 Partition with 48.0 gr VV N-160, which is fairly close to maximum. Going from memory he loaded a few rounds but instead of using N-160 he mistakenly substituted 48.0 gr of N-140. Quickload...

    .22 Squirrel load data

    .22 Squirrel load data

Does anyone have any load data for .22 Squirrel that they would be willing to share? The .22 Squirrel is a shortened, improved .22 Hornet. Ballistics are similar to .22 Long Rifle up to .22 magnum and possibly a little higher. My rifle is a Cooper M38. Any help would be appreciated...
