    Hypothetical: Your police service weapon

I would pick the HK USP45. A solid, reliable weapon, not overly complex or hard to manipulate. 12+1 rounds of .45 200 or 230gr CorBon HP, with three more mags in pouches on the belt. It can be carried hammer down, safety on for good safety, and with the 1st shot coming off DA, followed up...

What should I wear at the range?

Check the rules regarding holsters, many ranges will not allow them, unless you have been "approved by the rangemaster" or are LE. I use rather non descript bags for my range gear. Nothing with gun logos to attract undue attention. If I have anything that looks too "commando" I tuck it...

.40's with supported chambers... can we get a list going?

Any of the current crop of HK USPs (both full size and compacts) as well as the P2000 (and presumably the P2000sk when it is released in this country in .40). Not sure about the P7M10.......

Who uses .45 +P rounds for daily carry

I keep .45 230gr +p black talons in my USP45f. If I weren't using those, it would be either 200 or 230gr +p CorBon. The USP can take the higher pressures, and the recoil system helps eat up what I think is very, very minimal extra kick from the +p loading......

Magazine insertion releases slide lock - is this bad?

It is a common, if occasionally inconsistent happening on the HK USP series pistols. I have a USP45 and I like don't find it at all unsafe, and my pistol is consistent with it happening if I "slap" the magazine in. With a slower/easier insertion, it won't release the slide.

    Shooting an empty propane container

In a house fire situation, those tanks will explode. I have found the twisted remains of propance cyclinders 200-300 yards from the building. They blow up with a bit of a fireball and the nasty chunks of metal go into orbit. I once heard one explode, and the remains of the tank (a big...

How many rounds do you carry and what type?

3 12rnd mags...each loaded with .45 +P Ranger/Black Talons, plus one more in the chamber......

    best handgun for alligators?

Having lived (and hunted) in South Florida for a few years, I definately have some opinions on the matter...... While the 12ga pump with some buckshot would be nice.....(sure go ahead, stick one in the golf bag, tell everyone that is what you use for those "really tough holes"). But for a...

Cops gun would not go off.

Possibly "pushing the weapon towards...the midsection" might have actually put the front of the weapon up against the perp, the pressure holding it (slightly) out of battery, and not allowing it to fire ? Just my $.02.......

How did you pick your carry ammo?

When they first came out I shot a bunch of .45 Hydra Shoks, liked them, they were reliable, and carried them. A couple of years ago I got ahold of .45 +P Rangers (formerly Black Talons), shot up a bunch of that and liked it as well, and made the switch to that, even though it has become a...

    Lights on Guns Bad Idea

There have been times at night when I have needed a light (and a gun too), and couldn't find the "bedside flashlight" (someone moved it, I used it some other time, etc....). But since my weapon is secured, I always know where it is. Having the light attached to it just simplifies things......

Sig P220ST vs. Heckler & Koch USP .45ACP full size

I own a USP45, and I like it alot. No problems, well built, accurate, ergonomic. Maybe not great to conceal, but I don't do that, so for me it is a non-issue. I have the Tactical model, so the trigger is as good, or better than whatever else is out there...... If I were buying ANOTHER 45...

    HK magazines

And HK can charge that much, because there is really no competition. Pro Mag is one of the few companies making mags for the USP (which can be purchased for about $20), and the general consensus is: don't trust your life to a Pro Mag. They might be OK on the range, but they have been...

    870 Negligent Discharge (Farnam)

What would have been truly priceless would have been to be in the car right behind the officer at the stoplight. What a show !!!!! At least he wasn't on a multi lane road where he would have been pulle dup next to some one. Keep your eyes out for things like that in the future !!!

    HK Tactical range report

I pump alot of rounds through my tac (and in fact last month I was in Baltimore doing just that)....all without problems. But then again I try to use premium ammo: Winchester White Box, Federal American Eagle & Remington UMC (which when I was there was on sale at Dick's Sporting Goods for...

Metal baseplates for H&K USP magazines. Anyone making these?

Try asking over that the HKPro forums. Ask over there, and someone will likely steer you the right way, or tell you what they are making themselves.....

.22 handgun for pest control, recommendations please

I would have to throw my votes behind ducktapehero & joab....I use a 9 shot H&R with the colbri ammo in it while searching storm drains (please don't ask why). It is a combo that works with low noise, no risk of over penetration/richochets and does a number on the beasties at close range.....

What's a good gun (& ammo) to take into the water?

I spend plenty of time in and around the water with my weapons, and I have two faves: #1: Smith & Wesson Model 66 & 686 (stainless)/w hogue rubber grips Holds up great in both salt and fresh water, and are easy to clean, and work well even gritted up. Plus the .357 works well on...

    Most expensive pre-ban magazines

The infamous HK USP 12 rnd "pre ban" mags....that according to HK don't exist, run $100+ in an on-line auction. A factory USP45 mag goes for about $50 new (10 rnds). So for an extra $50+ you get: TWO MORE ROUNDS...... That is about a pricey as you'll get for a current production handgun, on a...

Your HD shotgun - Ready to fire?

Mossberg 590 /w tac light. Weapon in soft case beside the bed. No round in the chamber. Safety off. Slide unlocked. 5 rounds in the tube: first three are #4, last two are 00. Side saddle has six more 00. Butt cuff has three more 00, and two sabot slugs. I live alone so no worries...
