Whats the coldest weather you have hunted in or encountered?

December. Northern Alberta, Canada. -40C (which also happens to be -40F) plus windchill. Shot a deer and it was cooling and freezing almost faster than I could field dress it. Easy to pack out, though; dragged it on the snow.

Want to Re-stock my Lee Enfield

Thanks for the tips. It is a No. 4 Mk I. Anyone tried the marstar parts? Like the looks of the one that Full Clip has. What was the price on that, if you don't mind me asking?

    870 Help Please

I agree completely with the above poster. Have a gunsmith look at it; that's the only way to have complete confidence in your gun again. If you want this gun for HD, then confidence is one thing that's a must! It will probably save $$$ down the road too.

Springfeild M1 muzzle energy? Bear Defense?

I hunt elk in Northern Alberta, and like my 12 ga. with 000 Buck or slugs for bear defense. I like the 000 buck because I don't have to be as accurate (and would probably be scared stupid to see a bear in my tent), and you can't go wrong with slugs. If your worried about money, get your...

must have rifles in a collecction

I can't tell you what to have in your collection, but in mine I would still like to get: Savage 99 (lever guns are cool!) Model '95 shotgun (hammer/pump shotguns are cool!) SKS (can't get an AK very easily in Canada; SKS is the best I can do) M1 (love militaria) .410/.22 over/under...

    New 870 First Shooting "Process"

Read the manual, especially the parts about field stripping (may have to this in case of a jam; you remove the end cap, take barrel off, etc), clean and oil, shoot. You will love the 870. I have one, it is one of the best shotguns ever made. Easy to shoot, aims well, easy to disassemble for...

Want to Re-stock my Lee Enfield

Anyone have good links/suggestions for getting a new stock for my Lee Enfield? I don't want to put on a synthetic; I definately want newer wood for it. Not sporterized if possible. Also looking for a rear "flip-up" sight as mine is busted (has been since I bought it). Any suggestions would...

    Shotgun for my wife.

All good advice. Will be taking her to the range very soon (and I will be looking at handguns for myself; very excited). Just wanted to know if there were a few choices to narrow the field down to, rather than going to the range or store and saying, "I dunno" when the instructor/shopkeeper...

cartridges that make you go "ouch!"

Shot a Weatherby Mark V Deluxe Magnum in .460 WM with Hornady 500 gr FMJ rounds. Shot that twice at the range after "tenderizing" my shoulder with a couple of boxes of 7mm Rem Mag and .30-'06.

    Identify my .22

I have an old (40's I think) .22 that was my grandfather's. It is a bolt action with a tube magazine underneath. The tube holds 10 shots. It was originally only supposed to take regular .22's, but has been modified sometime since to take .22LR. It has a light colored wood stock, with an...

    Shotgun for my wife.

Thank you all for the advice. I have an 870 express 12ga 3" that my wife has shot before and can handle, but not for all day. I was leaning towards an 870 in 20 ga, and that's probably where we'll start looking. As Springmom pointed out, the decision is hers, and we'll probably have alot of...

    Inexpensive .30-06 rifle?

My Savage 111 in 7mm Rem Mag shoots good, tight groups... when the scope mounts aren't screwed up. Seriously, I like my 111, but I have had problems with the rear mounts and scope ever since I got it. If you're going to put a new scope and/or mounts on it anyways, why bother with a package...

What is the last gun that you bought?

Ruger M77 Hawkeye in .30-'06. Still can't decide on my autoloader. Glock? Ruger? Kimber? So many choices........

    Shotgun for my wife.

My wife has expressed an interest in going with me to shoot sporting clays. I was wondering what advice you all had as to which gun/load I should buy her. She is fairly diminutive, and would need a junior/beginner gun probably. Any advice from someone else who's just starting out (especially...

    Inexpensive .30-06 rifle?

That Vanguard is a great buy. Weatherby doesn't make a "cheap" rifle. They make a good, inexpensive rifle.

    Ruger M77 accuracy

Ruger M77 Hawkeye I recently purchased a Ruger M77 Hawkeye in .30-'06. Love it. Great hunting accuracy. Shot 1" groups at the local range at 100 yds, with minimal adjustments out of the box. Also, a beautiful looking hunting rifle.
