    Best budget 30-06.

I own a pre-Remington Marlin XL-7, and I've got about your budget in it. The rifle itself was just over $300. The scope is a discontinued Bushnell 4200 Elite that cost me just under $200. I almost felt bad buying expensive Leupold rings to set it in. :p I have zero complaints. I've only...

    Stainless ar-15

Congrats, jenny! It's innovative thinking like yours that actually drives industry. I can't say that I've ever seen a stainless steel AR15. You've already mentioned why... There just isn't any need for one. I'm not gonna say it's impossible, but I bet it would be quite spendy. I do hope you...

Ruger LCP 380 - the bad?

Ours has been completely reliable from day one. We only have a few hundred rounds through it, though. It does have a pretty stiff trigger pull, and the sights are pretty hard to pick up in anything but the best light. Combine that with the stiff recoil you get with shooting even a powder-puff...

Why so much disdain for the .25 acp?

    Ooooooooohhhh... Pretty. lol

Why so much disdain for the .25 acp?

I used to own a Raven .25, and it was by far one of the easiest-to-shoot guns I've ever owned. I could run the police qualification course with it and pass, as well. In contrast, the LCP in .380 is one of the hardest-to-shoot pistols I've ever owned. While the recoil of a .380 isn't all that...

Is a zinc alloy frame as strong as polymer?

As does the CZ-100 (and possibly the CZ-101, though we'll probably never see any 101's imported into these fine United States).

    1911 Magazine Question

    That's what I thought. Thanks!

    1911 Magazine Question

I recently bought a Sig Carry Fastback 1911. It comes with two 8-round magazines, but the magazines have bump pads on the bottom. I really want to pick up some flush-fitting magazines for CCW purposes. Does anybody know if these Wilson's will fit flush? Wilson Combat magazines I've...

    New 9mm suggestions wanted.

I'm not averse to aluminum, or even plastic, although I prefer steel. This isn't going to be my carry piece, so I'm not really worried about the weight. I'll just bolt the TLR onto it and stick it into the Gun Vault whenever it's not coming to the range with me. The reason I prefer steel is...

    New 9mm suggestions wanted.

I have my Officers' Model and Sig Carry 1911 for CCW duty. I've been keeping a Taurus 24/7 in the nightstand lockbox for HD duty, but because the .40 S&W bug just hasn't caught me as much as I thought it would, it just sits there. I've been thinking that I wouldn't mind selling the Taurus (not...

    AR15 vs 1911

Any tiem I get the urge to buy a new gun, I look at what I have and ask myself, "What niche is this gun going to fill that I don't already have covered?" In my opinion, any proper household needs: -- .22 pistol -- .22 rifle -- small game / varmint centerfire rifle -- large game centerfire...

    Beretta Nano Impressions

I test-drove one last week as well, and I didn't care for it. It worked well, all the parts fit together well, and there's nothing inherently "bad" about the little pistol as far as I could tell. It just didn't fit me well. The trigger pull seemed overly long to me, and while smooth, it did...

    Alaskan Cruise and .44 revolver...

Mrs. Ceetee and I have been on 14 or 15 cruises, and there have always been security measures in place. I always manage to get a small pocket knife onboard, usually by packing it in my shaving kit. This past summer, I took a SOG multi-tool in, and they noted it bubt let it through. The...

    ? 1911 to buy

I just recently bought a Sig Carry Fastback. There's a review of it on here. I bought it as a potential replacement for my Colt Officers' Model because... well... I'm just not all that crazy about the Colt. It's a fine pistol, don't get me wrong, but it just doesn't seem to fit me well...

    Boresnake vs. bore brush

I use bore snakes if all I'm trying to do is give them a quick wipe down. If they need a more thorough cleaning, I give the whole bore a shot of foam, chamber to crown. Let the chemicals do their work, and you can usually just patch the crud out. The only time I really use a brush is on the...

Companies that do NOT make a 1911

You are correct, sir. I still think of the XD series as HS 2000's. Matter of fact, just after Springfield brought out the XD lineup, a gun store guy tried to sell me a HS 2000. I would have bought it, too, except he wanted Springfield money for it, instead of HS 2000 money.

Companies that do NOT make a 1911

I dunno, really. I guess if it's not actually made in Uhersky Brod, I don't consider it a "real" CZ. The same way I no longer consider my Dodge an American truck since I found ou tit was actually made in Mexico. Hey, it makes sense to me. It don't have to make sense to anybody else... :p

Decision Made: Sig Carry Fastback - Super-Unprofessional Range Report Included!

Now that I'm home, I'll add the actual weight data: The Sig, with one magazine and nine rounds of 230 gr hardball weighs 43.2 ounces. The Colt, with one Wilson Combat magazine and eight rounds weighs 39.6 ounces. I can't tell if the barrel is 4.2 inches or 4.25 inches. And the only part of...

Companies that do NOT make a 1911

CZ hasn't jumped on the bandwagon. Yet. Unless you count Dan Wesson, which in my mind I keep separate. Somehow the idea of a CZ 1911 kinda makes me feel funny inside...

Decision Made: Sig Carry Fastback - Super-Unprofessional Range Report Included!

The Sig has a stainless steel frame and slide both. I really like the weight compared to the lightweight Smigh and Kimber. I got Mrs. Ceetee's food scale out the other night (don't tell her!) and weighed the Sig and the Officers' Model. I was really surprised to find out that fully loaded...
