    Gun lingo I don't understand

It's guys like this that make me shake my head. Big ups to the Naval Pharmacist's Mate. (Hope I recalled that right.) I did communications in the Air Force. I got a shiny ribbon for shooting 35/40 with a beat up old Colt SP1. I spent a couple long, boring, rainy nights on detail in a sheep...

Looking for a handgun for the new guy

I love my SP101, though some people may say it's a bit heavy/bulky for every day CCW. I dig it, because you can shoot .38 special all day and night without getting sore- it just doesn't kick at all. I wouldn't get a Hi-Point either. They work, and they're cheap, but I'll be honest, I don't...

What kind of knife does the Joker use in Dark Knight?

I just remember a number 2 pencil. Wanna see my magic trick? lol.

Moms Against Guns free billboard rebuttal

Good point, hso. Sorry about that. The page specifically for the Philadelphia area (remember, like I found out, we need to be region-specific) is right here. http://www.clearchanneloutdoor.com/markets/philadelphia.htm And it's Clear Channel Outdoor that handles the billboards. The page...

Moms Against Guns free billboard rebuttal

Okay, so as I'm reading through my regular blogs, I come across this entry at Snowflakes in Hell. http://www.snowflakesinhell.com/2008/07/21/does-the-nra-get-a-free-billboard-too/ The actual story is here. http://www.philly.com/philly/news/local/25644254.html So why am I posting this...

    rifles under $600

For a truly FIRST rifle, I'm always going to recommend a .22 rimfire. Learn to use iron sights before moving on to a scope, and learn how to REALLY shoot. The principles are the same, so you might as well make trigger time affordable! Beyond that, I'm with Sarduy and have to say a Mosin 91/30...

    Your chosen 'MinuteMan' rifle....

Mini-14. Reliable as the day is long, and accurate enough. That, and I own one and some 20 round factory mags. Now, if I had an SKS... ;)

Which .22 round for home defense?

I don't know about those particular bullets, but if it's a lever action, I have trouble imagining running one type of ammo better than another. That being said, I can knock down coyotes with CCI Velocitor pretty easily. Copper, hollow point, 40 grains, and 1435 FPS. It's what I carry in my...

    Which compact pocket auto?

What does the slide lock on the Ruger matter? It's a pocket gun- not something one would be doing tactical reloads with... It's an "Oh $#!T" gun. My vote would be for the Kel-Tec. I owned and carried a P-32 for quite a while, and the construction is very, VERY similar. It was thin and...

If you were to rework your collection, what would you change?

My Ruger Mk.III Hunter is a very nice gun. Very pretty, accurate, etc. But I still regret selling my Mk.II years ago. Less legalese stamped on the side, simpler (i.e. no magazine safety or chamber indicator)... I'd keep it, or get a Single-Six.

    Small of the back?

"If you fall on your spine..." Seriously? Do you guys make a habit of falling on your back? When tussling with a bad guy, even if you go down backwards, aren't you moving side to side? Sorry, I just think this is a stupid argument. I'm going to be more worried about the knife the bad guy...

    Stupid 1911 Question!

I'll never understand why people keep asking about this (no offense) when Condition one always has at least 2 safeties, 3 if there's a firing pin safety, and 4 if you're thinking. Cocked and locked is the safest way to go. Hammer down on a live round means only the firing pin safety (if you...

If Browning made a 1911, would you buy one?

Browning is nothing more than a name that gets licensed to put on products. The guns are made by FN. I pass on all things Browning. Not to sound too harsh, I wish Browning would return to it's "glory days", but they don't offer anything that somebody can't make better.

The 1911 - is it because it's American?

Oh man... There are a LOT of responses here, and some very good ones on both sides of the issue! Here's my 2 cents... I'm new to the 1911. It's my 5th carry/CCW gun, and the evolution of me carrying this or that and discovering what I liked or what didn't work for me. It's a Kimber Tactical...

    .380 Accuracy????

While I've heard that .32 ACP is "inherently more accurate", I tend to think that ANY modern firearm and/or caliber are more accurate than I am... Glad you're so happy with your Bersa!

pocket pistol caliber war .32 vs .380

I go with the .32 ACP every time, but that's not intended as a dig at the 9mm Kurtz. :) It began as an emotional attachment for me, as my Grandpa left me an old Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless when he passed away. From there, I simply wanted to keep common ammunition, rather than have a bunch...

Gun for my wife to use?

I don't see anybody mentioning the Ruger SR9. Of course, maybe it's that she didn't like the looks of it. I only bring it up because of the adjustable backstrap, it's amazingly slim, and the ProArms podcast had a lot of good things to say about it's accuracy and ease of refining the...

    .32 Auto opinions

I have a soft spot in my heart for the 32 ACP. Maybe it's 'cause my Grandpa left me an old 1908 Pocket Hammerless that looks like it was never fired. Regardless, I've carried a .32 a lot of days. And it seems to me that one of the major gun rags just ran an article saying .32 was enough...

    .32 auto rimlock is real

My, oh my... Spent a few rounds today in my KelTec P32, and yeah, rimlock is real. I had it happen twice, I could've sworn I was being careful loading the magazines, and one of the rimlocked mags was the one I was carrying. And yes, I had rimlock stop my firing. So don't believe that the...
