    642 Club Part Deux

I ,like many wanted to dress up my J-Frames, so I put redwood grips on both the 637 and the 642. I then proceeded to drop the 637 twice during transfers from pocket to and from trunk safe (COM) It was a wet day and my hands were damp. After dinging the frame (not critically, but enough to show)...

There is no need to look for anything exotic. I have used Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish for years. The chemicals are less caustic than Lead Away and it is availanle at Walmart, Aces Hardware and just about all auto parts stores. A small container of it will last years as it doesn't take much...

    642 Club Part Deux

2 1/2" barreled 642 is fixing something that isn't broke IMHO. Adds length and weight. The reason I carry the 642 is that it is short and light! If I want additional weight and barrel length I strap on a belt holster and my 640!

Minor correction. Semi-autos are "pistols". 642 is a "revolver". Dictionary definition: 1. (noun) pistol, handgun, side arm, shooting iron a firearm that is held and fired with one hand Pistol is a word in the English language and therefore dictionary defines usage, not forums...

    642 Club Part Deux

I sometimes carry a 637 (smaller profile)instead of my 642. To alleviate "printing" I put a set of Rosewood Badger boot grips on the 637. While transfering the gun from pocket to a COM trunk safe the gun slipped right out of my hands! The dings it got in the drop bothered me less than the fact...

For those outside Tennessee: Tennessee HCP firing test is set up for down and dirty, fast fire at close range testing. Most people they are testing will be using the gun in this scenario. Those who can shoot at long range and would choose to do so, already are practicing regularly and don't need...

I carry a 642 or 637 depending on my mode of dress. I have been shooting Winchester 130 FMJ from Wally World for some time. I carry 125 gr Hornady XTP/JHP and the Winchester 130 has same point of impact. I think you will find the 130gr an excellent and manageable practice round.

Are there any reliable one shot stop statistics ?

All of this is why the 12 gauge shotgun is the king of the Home Defense Weapons instead of the 1911. A full charge at 21 feet of OO buck in the COM is bound to do something drastic to a human body! It may or may not be a sure one stopper but it is going to be discouraging as h***!

    Glock pin moves out?

Glock 23 question: Has anybody had a problem with the locking block pin (part#36 in the exploded diagram) working its way out during firing. After putting 50 rounds through my G23 today I found that the pin had worked itself partly out on the left side. I immediately pressed it back and had no...

DAdams: The manual covers all S&W handguns: Pistols and Revolvers, Old and New. It comes in a 3 ring binder, neatly tabbed. I also bought the CD manual just to transfer and carry with me on a flash drive on the road. lagniappe: I fire my 317 almost every day. It is a terrific...

"wjh2657 - As you have found, S&W uses a "representative" generic schematic in all related models. I know exactly what you are looking for but I I don't think it exists outside of the production documents we don't have access to. I will PM you the email for a S&W rep that has been very...

J-Frame schematics Does anybody know an up to date source of J-Frame schematics. I emailed S&W and they sent me the manual with the old Hammer Mounted firing pin and no ILS schematics. The Jerry Kuhnhausen book and the AGI DVD also use the out of date schematics. I had to take apart my 640 to...

What is the last gun that you bought?

Cobra CB38 .38 Special derringer. A hideout gun for a very secret place! Meant to be used in a last ditch, press against the body and fire scenario.

Revolver Jam/lockup problems, what the hell?

Glad to hear you found problem. I have never had a revolver lockup (jam) on any of my new revolvers. I recently bought a Pre-10 M&P 2 1/2" , a beautiful nickeled piece. At the range it locked up after about 100 rounds. I usually do an LTI on my guns but I had just ran a patch through this gun...

"Amen. I have been to the silly gun schools too. In a real fight, you will do the opposite. You will or better be moving. You will not use your sights. And, you will probably be firing at contact distance with one hand." Bennelli Shooter My experience with real contact combat proved to me...

I've reached the conclusion that traditional handgun shooting skills are detrimental to effective SD shooting for a casual shooter: Spending time getting a proper sight picture, with the target properly placed over the...
