My understanding is that, in the trenches of WWI and the tunnels of Vietnam, the 1911 was a fantastic weapon to have handy... maybe better than anything else - for its maneuverability, relatively powerful cartridge, and auto-loading capability. Would have been much better than a shovel or 1903...

As someone who is still working on developing their basic collection (i.e. no "safe queens," no "fun guns," only guns useful for training or fighting), I agree that rifles need more mags than pistols. It must be nice to have $1,000 worth of magazines just for your 1911, with who knows how...

Agreed. It was the serious, grounded nature of discussion at THR that really attracted me to this board to begin with, too. Seeing threads like this one... the whole premise just doesn't jive with THR, to me at least. Maybe that's why I went after him so hard... whether it was the right thing...
