    Sellier and Bellot Buckshot

A couple things about S&B buckshot - 1) it's plain lead, no copper plating, so it will a) lead your barrel b) exhibit somewhat wider patterning as the lead deforms, bouncing down the barrel and skidding off the sides and c) not penetrate as deeply on target. Also, 2) there is no granulated...

    Round count vs skill

I try to shoot only as much as I'm capable of concentrating on in any one session. That means that I usually only take 100 centerfire rounds, a brick of .22lr, and stop whenever I'm getting noticably fatigued. I don't wan to ingrain bad habits... I also do try to spend a good bit of time...

    1911's overrated?

Again, maybe not for main-line forces, but for those guys at the "pointy end of the spear," they almost exclusively choose the 1911. So I would argue that it's not best in a conventional military role that would almost never see it actually used... but, according to the guys who DO choose to...

    1911's overrated?

Tell that to Delta and Marine Force Recon. Tell that to FBI HRT. Tell that to Larry Vickers and other guys who actually have (probably) shot people with them. Tell them their choice of handgun is too heavy, has too little capacity, isn't durable enough, isn't safe enough, and has too many...

    1911's overrated?

My understanding is that, in the trenches of WWI and the tunnels of Vietnam, the 1911 was a fantastic weapon to have handy... maybe better than anything else - for its maneuverability, relatively powerful cartridge, and auto-loading capability. Would have been much better than a shovel or 1903...

    Minimum Number of Magazines?

As someone who is still working on developing their basic collection (i.e. no "safe queens," no "fun guns," only guns useful for training or fighting), I agree that rifles need more mags than pistols. It must be nice to have $1,000 worth of magazines just for your 1911, with who knows how...

    What would you do?

This is why I avoid trying to "save seats." It's asking for trouble like this. But to the point, if you are armed, you have a responsibility to AVOID confrontations like this one. Don't try to save seats, and don't try to argue with some jackass over said seats when he's being this...

    .50 Beowulf for Bear Defense?

Actually, Beowulf means "Bee Wolf," which doesn't make much sense if you read it on the face... But the Anglo Saxon people had an interesting aversion to saying the word "bear," believing that, if you did, he would hear you and come to find out what was being said about him... which they...

    magazine extension suggestions for 870

+1 reloaderfred. I keep 7 rounds of Remington Express #4 2 3/4" Buck in my Benelli Nova SP with the extended Benelli tube, and it's true, over time I have to replace what I keep in there because the crimps come unglued / uncrimped and buffer material starts to leak out. They still fire just...

How can you train it out of you?

Why would you want to change any of these behaviors? If aggressive force is required by the situation, then open up. But don't go awarding yourself the MOH just yet. Adding the caveat "I say that not to brag" doesn't mean you're not bragging.

How can you train it out of you?

There's a sig line floating around somewhere here - "Until the day of his death, no man can be sure of his courage." Have you ever been shot at? Have you ever seen your friends bleed out from a gunshot wound? Be careful about assuming how courageous you will be in a situation you...

We didn't run him off, he posted here http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=4989024#post4989024 at 1:05, 21 minutes after his last post in this thread... We didn't run him off the board, just off this thread... And it's not just us or them - those of "us" who attempt to lie to...

I've never meant to insinuate that what you were doing wasn't legitimate, only that what the OP said was rediculous. I'm sorry if I came across the wrong way... I acknowledge that a) Private security firms do exist in large numbers, b) There are lots of bad places in America, and c) Sometimes...

Agreed. It was the serious, grounded nature of discussion at THR that really attracted me to this board to begin with, too. Seeing threads like this one... the whole premise just doesn't jive with THR, to me at least. Maybe that's why I went after him so hard... whether it was the right thing...
