Five Year Old Shooting a 20ga

I was definitely shooting a .410 and 20 gauge at 5. Couldn’t wing shoot or hold them up for that matter but resting on Dads shoulder at a sitting dove was pretty easy. First deer at 6 with a .270 which I was made to sight in properly. I don’t ever remember being afraid of the recoil. It moved me...

What good are .22 LR shotshells?

Crushed walnut shell in a .38 Special case is pretty effective on carpenter bees and wasp nests. Primers are too precious to waste on them now though!

    This is just funny.

Correct….if you take a guided tour by the right person at the oil museum they can explain the story behind almost every piece there.

    This is just funny.

Kids these days seem to have a lot of time one their hands!

    260 remington

Don’t forget that 260 brass can be easily formed from other .308 family cartridges so you will never have to pay top dollar for hard to find or obsolete brass like some of these other cartridges. That was the deciding factor for me!

    Why not go all in?

Maybe not an all in or out comment but I think it applies to the thread thus far. It seems I see more and more people that are reluctant to try new things (reloading, gunsmithing, playing mechanic on the family car) as time goes on. The one thing that I’ve learned that usually keeps them from...

    .45-70 hunting

When hogs first showed up on our place I hunted with an 1895. One day I shot a 150ish pound boar while he was facing me. He ran and I left to let him lay for a while. Came back an hour later to dig him out of the brush. He was very much still alive and almost ate my lunch. 405 grain soft point...

    Canted rear sight in Mauser????

There are some fellows over at Mauser Central forum that will answer everything you need to know plus a little.

    Enfield bolt wont go in

If you can’t tell what exactly is binding you could always color the bolt with a sharpie marker to locate the problem area. Might give you a better idea of what is going on.

    Nuisance Deer

I think raising a couple of dogs on the property and making it their home would be the best bet. Even the dogs that I’ve had that weren’t hunters would chase a deer off if it got too close.

    Lead recycling back stop

I built a 4 foot cube out of 12” square cants I cut on the sawmill. In the center is a 2x2 cube missing which I place a squared off chunk of post oak. Targets are placed on the post oak piece. When it is shot out pretty bad I burn it in a steel pan and the lead is left in the bottom. Last time I...

Does storing hunting ammo loose cause issues?

Check the tips on soft point rounds in the magazine after firing 4-5 times with a moderately recoiling rifle. They will all be flattened. I used to be concerned about it until I accuracy tested a few of them and found that they were still as good as I was.

9mm headcase enlarged / primer blown out

I think that you would most definitely notice a “difference” in an OOB firing but I’m not sure it would be in recoil necessarily. Mostly in sound but my only experience with this event is with .22 LR. Every case I have ever seen that was fired OOB failed and had a distinct ring where the case...

Need some input on Mauser rebuilds

Sounds like you have a Brazilain (1908) and an Argentine (1909). I have never heard of any issues with the heat treat on either of these actions and the Argentines at least are usually highly desirable for builds. The Brazilians usually showed up with considerably more pitting. You can get into...

    Fixing up my wingmaster

A piece of appropriately sized pvc pipe can be easily made into a spanner wrench for the forearm. A hacksaw blade will make the necessary cuts if thats all you have. Made mine 20 years ago and it has removed and installed dozens over the years.

    7x57 Brass

I certainly wouldn’t turn fairly rare 7x57 brass into .308 brass. I’m sure there are many people right here that would gladly trade you for whatever you need. Myself included.

Recommended Caliber For Euthanizing Farm Animals or Pets

I’ve had to do it on occasion and recall thinking more than I should have on what gun to use. I always asked myself what I would choose if it was to be used on me. That always ruled out the .22. Being certain that it wasn’t botched was worth any mess I had to see.

Using my horse Pasture as a shooting range

Shooting some kids dog for not recognizing a property line is pretty crappy in my opinion. If it is being destructive or endangering livestock or people thats one thing but just because it is walking on your dirt is not justifiable. I’ve seen how torn up my kids are over a lost dog. Not worth it...

Using my horse Pasture as a shooting range

Man....in Texas the Game Warden would likely put an abrupt end to this foolishness. I can’t believe sending a bullet across a property line is legal ANYWHERE!!!

A Riddle, a Question, or What the Heck?

25-06 loaded in .270 brass? I find it very difficult to tell if brass tumbled in certain medias has been reloaded. But I probably missed something.
