I'm a left handed shooter with the AR. I also bought the Rainier raptor. It's great for the claw and with the right hand it works well without having to put the weapon in as awkward position as a stock charging handle to clear a malfunction.
I owned a German cross hair accupoint and I now own one with a red triangle.
The cross hair dot is very small. It's hard to use the dot in a fast both eyes open situation at 1x. The triangle acts more like a red dot sight. I also own an aimpoint t1 for comparison.
If you want a 1-4x for the...
Would love to have one, but three factors keep me from spending money on one that could be spent on other gun things.
1. Price: Too much to spend for me for what amounts to a range toy.
2. Weight: Keeps it from being a practical hunting rifle.
3. Ammo/clips: All things being equal, I'd get...
I wonder sometimes with some of the newer gun owners how many guys out there now have never shot any game with their rifle. Hunting is becoming less and less popular in many areas and there just aren't the opportunities to shoot game if the only place some folks have to shoot is at the range...
I am a righty that shoots lefty with my AR due to being left eye dominate. I have a Troy Ambi mag release. It replaces the stock one in about two minutes. I also put on an ambi safety.
The three things that I think a lefty wants are the ambi mag release, safety, and troy ambi charging handle...
I had a CMMG AR with chrome bore and barrel that had the same problem. Started within the first 10 rounds. I have a BCM upper that takes it just fine. Some AR's have tight chambers and aren't as tolerant of Tula. I sold the CMMG. I want an upper that will eat anything.
For a fun compromise, a pump .22 is almost as fast as a semi and has very nearly the same reliability as a bolt, low maintenance also.
Most are tube fed, so not as fast to reload as a semi with a detachable mag.
Spikes. Same upper as an an AR. You could replace the barrel and add a gas tube and have a complete .223/5.56 upper. Just add a bolt carrier group and you're good to go.
CMMG is the same setup. The colt and S&W are just replications of an AR. I've handled both and they feel cheap and toy like...
If you already have a DPMS lower, get a dedicated Spikes tactical .22 upper for about $500. Mine has been very reliable with Federal Bulk. The bolts are nickle plated and very easy to clean. I clean it about every 500 rounds and it is 99% reliable. I might get 1 or two failures every 500 rounds...
I have a g19 and 26. The 26 is a great gun and shoots just as well as the 19. I had it out today in fact and was able to ding an old wheel rim I use as a target at 100 yards. The 26 is just so easy to carry. No one knows it's there. I carry in a Comptac-Mtac with an untucked t-shirt and it...
Some things have changed since the this thread was started. Spikes tactical now makes a dedicated .22 lr uppers as well as several other companies. CMMG, Model 1, Tactical Solutions to name a few. I have a spikes .22 upper with several thousand rounds through it. Functions great. 1 or 2 failures...
I have a 7600 pump in .243. Lightning fast, low recoil, almost like shooting my AR. I can shoot almost as fast as I can pull the trigger.
The reason I got it was because I shoot lefty and it works great for that. Good accuracy.
Spikes tactical makes a conversion bolt as well. It's nickle plated and better than both the CMMG and Ceiner kits IMO. I have one on a dedicated .22 lr AR upper and it's been flawless through 2000 rounds so far. It's more reliable than any 10/22 I've had and easier to clean.
