    S.D. Myers

six years later, me and a pile of folk off a board that doesn't even exist anymore have yet to receive word or money or holster from Mr. DuClos when we were foolish enough to do a group buy.....if the original outfit had ever done that, you'd have never heard of them now....giving this thief...

    cleaning SAA

scrat, you caught me.....I only own one gun.....well, half a gun since all the parts fell off because I destroyed all the screws and didn't order a "screw pack"....I'm just making up having guns for decades and frequently disassembling them with no harm to screws or guns....in truth, apparently...

    cleaning SAA

I've been taking my single-actions apart for decades for every cleaning with BP, and generally take them apart for smokeless, also....I have yet to buy a "screw package".....for gun lube/preservative, I just use my homebrew borebutter beeswax/olive-veggie-oil, which works just fine.....as I...

    question on purchase age

(B14) May a parent or guardian purchase firearms or ammunition as a gift for a juvenile (less than 18 years of age)? [Back] Yes. However, possession of handguns by juveniles (less than 18 years of age) is generally unlawful. Juveniles generally may only receive and possess handguns with the...

    cleaning SAA

Many folk report no problems with leaving internals in place, cleaning as well as you can with very hot/soapy water, and then blowing out the water and flowing oil inside.....I detail strip/clean every time, not wanting to take chances....it takes me 45mins from start to finish to detail strip a...

    Toxicity of Black Powder Residue/Smoke?

The original query had much merit.....sure, lead styphenate isn't something I'd be wanting to put in my mouth, and I wouldn't bet there's no vaporized lead even from PRB as the heat goes through the weave.....the blow-tube is an excellent idea, and standard shooting precautions such as keep...

    44 Mag Redhawk vs Blackhawk?

My hand prefers the SA gripframe for bigbores...period....I've owned several Redhawks.....very durable, very accurate, very heavy, prone to misfires, especially in DA....

    Toxicity of Black Powder Residue/Smoke?

Frankly, I see most of the armchair toxicology theorizing as something that would only happen to folk hypersensitized by mass media to stories of hazards in every mouthful of food and every intaken breath.....if living were that dangerous, we'd all be dead by now.....it's just gunpowder smoke...

    4F in a ROA ?

ha!....found my book....they show 41grs/4f/1036fps/143gr ball....compared to 40grs/3f/917fps/143gr ball.... Interestingly, they modified their import .44cal revolvers for pressure testing, 37grs/4f/960fps/138gr ball/7420LUP, along with the 28grs/4f/885fps/155gr conical/8480LUP.... All the...

    Sifting powder?

If the various grain sizes are uniformly mixed, it would seem uniform velocity would follow, especially considering how inefficient BP is, and how little difference small variations in loads make in the end product....also, would be concerned handling/sifting would cause as many problems as it...

    4F in a ROA ?

It's all I use.....they've always maintained the gun safe with as much sporting-grade blackpowder as it could hold.....sure, pressures will be higher.....so will be the velocity....I've clocked just shy of 1200fps with ball out of my gun, a below ffffg pressure query thread I tried lists a...

    Hunting with BP Pistols

Best I've heard of is just under 800fps with a 200gr bullet, which is better than I suspected.... a little below .45ACP, in any case...

    Hunting with BP Pistols

Another option would be a brace of singleshots....zero chance of cap fragments from the first shot causing the gun to jam....of course, with a revolver, lowering the muzzle while cocking will greatly reduce cap fragment jams.

ever get flamed for carrying a revolver?

in answer to the original question, not after someone watches me shoot my revolvers.

    hi-tec/low-tec .45 Colt BP loading...

I did my very first handloading with a Lee .45ACP Loader...many happy hours at the cobbler's bench, banging away.....

    Pedersoli Frontier

With the offset scope, you'll also need to build out as well as up.....there are so many ways rifle shooters and shotgunners have skinned that cat, I wouldn't even attempt a listing....

    Hunting with BP Pistols

I've very little experience with repro C&B revolvers....I've a fair amount of experience with the ROA, and anything which duplicates a .45 Colt will shoot clean through a deer, and provide 2-3ft of penetration on hog or black bear....I'd hazard that aside from a Walker or Dragoon, the rest of...

    Toxicity of Black Powder Residue/Smoke?

Luther freely admitted he received his greatest inspirations while on the privy, and also had an anatomically unlikely wish regarding anal pores and de' debbil.

    Hunting with BP Pistols

Both the Ruger Old Army revolver and Lyman Plains Pistol can be loaded to approximate factory .45 Colt performance, and both can equal better grade modern centerfire revolver accuracy at 50yds.

    hi-tec/low-tec .45 Colt BP loading...

Just sort of a microwave vs. alternate method delubing of cheap bullets update. I was suprised small batches of the bullets that I nuked didn't spark....in fact, your bullets might spark, large batches might spark, etc etc... Several responders to the thread suggested boiling them....I've...
