Colt .45 Series 70 Gold Cup

Great ideas guys! Thanks for the explanations and alternatives! "Frame-Mount", eh? I will look into that! I won't be beating up the reddot with that approach either. Sounds good! :) John

Colt .45 Series 70 Gold Cup

Thanks rcmodel- I'll try the 8-40 screws again, and heavy on the BlackMax. Gotta ask- Why aren't lockwashers used?

Colt .45 Series 70 Gold Cup

Reddot rail keeps loosening up. It was drilled and tapped for a Clark rail to hold a reddot, but the 8X40 threads are "buggered". Tried chasing the threads and added locktite, but a few hundred rounds later, loosened again. Is going to a 10X32 capscrew a viable option? And lockwashers, and...

A cheap-o fix for tight chambers....

Interesting. I'm going to try that on a .22 cal Clark barrel that I just put on my S&W Model 41. It's been giving fail-to-eject especially with a cold barrel. Clark says to lube the top bullet in every other magazine with FP-10. Although oiling bullets is inconvenient, it does work. Not having...

    Rimfire internal ballistics

Question: Why is an extractor needed, for example, in a S & W Model 41, when the spent brass is blasting back the slide anyway? Isn't the pressure pulse driving the brass into the face of the slide, pushing the slide back, meaning the brass is self-ejecting anyway? Why an extractor claw is...

    rotator cuff

I was a beginning Bullseye shooter last year- 240 average. Right-handed/right eyed. Right shoulder was getting painful, and finally an MRI confirmed a 2.5 cm cuff tear. Sawbones said, "Get it fixed, or it'll get worse-to the point of immobility possibly"! I'm a healthy 63, and never had any...

    Snap Caps for Rimfires?

Home Depot- Drywall plastic anchors, Size Screw 4-6, 7/8" work fine. 100 for about $3. Usually work well in a Browning pistol magazine too!

    Stolen rifle comes home.

Sad gun theft story- Back in '89, my older brother saw I was developing an interest in guns, so he gave me our late Dad's rifles. A Japanese long rifle, an M1, and a 30-06 carbine. I was proud of my new collection, and the boys at work were dying to see them. I had just got my '87 Fiero GT out...

    .17 rimfire rifle

Another 917V lover here. Added a Rifle-Basix trigger, and a Barska 9-20X. When calm, 5 rounds easily fit in an inch circle at 200 yds, benched. Trick is to sense and adjust for the ever present wind. It's a nice repeatable flat shooter, but all a windage game with the tiny BB-size round. John
