What do you take when you go backpacking?

Wow, I feel like quite the outcast in this group. When I go backpacking/hiking, I take my Ruger Bearcat in stainless steel. My primary concern is the ability to have food if I run out, get lost, etc. The Bearcat isn't going to replace your favorite rifle, but it can take rabbits and squirrel...

    Bicycle Handgun??

Since revolvers are out I'd say pick a subcompact Glock in your favorite caliber. They don't fit my hand and I don't think they're the greatest thing since sliced bread, but they don't seem to fail too often.

So... what'cha gonna do when the bullets start flying?

    I agree 100% with Eightball

Choose your HD weapon (out of 3)

I would choose the 12 gauge for what I would do: hole up in my room behind cover and call the police. If you should need to go collect your kids, roommates, parents, whatever, either handgun would do unless you feel more comfortable with a long gun in that situation. Of course, I can't answer...

2 Chambers on My Vaquero Hard To Extract

That sounds unacceptable to me. I'd send it to Ruger and tell them to make it right. They have excellent customer service and I'm sure they'd take care of you.

What TWO calibers would you choose if you could only have two?

.223 Remington and 375 H&H Magnum for me, that combo ought to kill just about anything.

    Narrowing down the Grab-n-Go Bag

EDIT: Raptorq7r13 beat me to it DHJenkins, Your points are all valid. A bug out bag is not 100% necessary in most situations. However, when a nasty scenario rears its head such as a natural disaster, do you really want to go to a mobbed grocery store, pharmacy, gun shop, etc.? It's true...

How often do you clean your 22?

I treat my one .22 just like any other gun, I field strip it and clean it every time I use it. I don't know if it really needs it, but it makes me feel better and it always runs fine.

    Consolidating down to one

If I absolutely, positively had to go down to just one or face dire consequences I would keep my stainless Bearcat. Don't tell my P228 or my 1891 Mauser, otherwise they might think that I don't love them, which is far from the truth. I do understand where you're coming from. I recently sold...

    What's you favorite 9mm autoloader?

Tough Call, I love my SIG P228R, but my pal's Browning High Power is pretty awesome as well. Now if they could just both have that delightfully different H&K magazine release...

Buffalo Bore: Is it worth the $$$?

I love Buffalo Bore's .45 Colt loads, and have never had an issue with them. Pertaining to the "are they worth the price?" question, I feel that Buffalo Bore is a waste of money if you are seeking a good load in a common caliber, such as KBintheSLC's 38. They are, in my opinion, just...

Open carry, if its legal for you...

I enjoy it from time to time. I dig the freedom, but for most days I find CC much more practical. Do whatever you like, I won't try to stop you.

    One Rifle Poll.

How about something in 375 H&H Magnum? It might be overkill, but a Ruger No. 1 or CZ 550 will last forever, most places have a couple of boxes of ammo kicking around, and in a SHTF scenario, most people won't be fighting over an old safari cartridge. Also there's no need for special black...

New to forum - considering a Kel-Tec PF-9 for daily carry

Welcome to the forums I don't own a Kel-Tec, but my buddy has two; a PF-9 and a P-32. They both seem to work just fine and do want they are designed to do. I don't care for Kel-Tecs myself because they don't feel good in my hand and they aren't quite as nice as other polymer offerings...

    My First Handgun....XD-9!!!

Congrats and good choice for your first pistol. My first was a Glock 19 that I bought purely because of the Glock name. It was a fine weapon (don't flame me please :uhoh:), but if given the chance to do it over I would have bought an XD.

What are range fees where you live?

There are two places I usually go. One is a private campground/range that has a $30/year membership, the other is public and is funded entirely by donations, so I usually give $5 when I go, more if it's an all day affair. Yeah, Vermont's awesome like that.

XD 45 IWB carry -- realistic?

Although it isn't quite as large, I carry a SIG P228R in a Blackhawk leather IWB holster, and I can pull it off in the summer with proper shirt selection. Also, I'm only 5'6'' and 120 lbs. or so. Embrace billowy "hawaiian" style shirts, they are your friend.

    Pics from plinkin' on Sunday...

^Yeah, I've often wondered why more photographers aren't firearms enthusiasts. The sense of satisfaction you get from either is pretty great, and the action is similar.

    "Everyone should have a -"

Everyone should have a black powder weapon of some sort. Not only are they insanely fun, they are just as useful/lethal as they were 150+ years ago, but you can feel the Brady Campaign crying when you get one shipped to your house without a background check

Is anyone really dumb enough to fall for this

Instant Death! Yowza! After my winnings from the Nigerian Lottery come in I'm totally going to pick some up!
