    Making a 1911 from scratch

I guess I should clarify a bit. I've done enough parts replacement and hand-fitting to know what I'm getting into. I've completely disassembled and rebuild a couple factory 1911's too, just never built a new one completely from the ground up. Thanks for the warnings though!

    Making a 1911 from scratch

I've been slowly buying up parts for a 1911. Nearly there, just need a few of the smaller pieces (pins, springs, ejector). All my parts are from Wilson Combat, so they should fit together no problem. I have a couple questions though... Should I take everything to a gunsmith to get fitted...

    How customized are your firearms?

Detonics, maybe a dumb question, but what is that block below your barrel?? Link to post below, in case anyone else can answer! my Action Pistol Glenn Custom 686

    Knowledge of Deadly Force

Hmm, I can see the wisdom in not freely reciting this, but I do feel more comfortable about a potential incident, since I have this committed to memory. I think it's important to have a strong basis for personal definition and justification and a defensive shooting scenario. Even if it's never...

    A "Righteous Shoot"?

Very good thoughts and discussion here! This thread got me thinking about knowing what exactly defines & justifies deadly force (I know it will vary slightly based on the person & situation). Didn't want to hi-jack this thread though, so I made a new one HERE

    Knowledge of Deadly Force

I had a thought while reading the thread "A Righteous Shoot?" but I felt the discussion might veer too far off topic to keep it in that thread... Regarding justified shootings, witness statements, and the right to remain silent, I wonder how much of a difference it can/would make for a...

Scale drawing of custom fighter, input please

Take a look at Hide Away Knives. I have carried one of their "Claw" models for years. Not exactly the kind of knife you're describing, but is a wonderful choice for a backup/final option weapon. They offer many carry solutions including neck & belt sheaths, leather and kydex. I've carried one...

    Password Protected Ammo? Seriously.

Totally useless for SD anyway. "Wait, don't rob me! I have to activate my gun so I can stop you!" ...HA! Funny what people can invent though.

    Password Protected Ammo? Seriously.

Yeah, I get that. There are some pretty ridiculous patents out there. But there's been pushes for micro-stamping, and "smart" guns already. This isn't far off from either of those concepts. Is it possible? Yes. Feasible? NO. But when did that ever stop the Anti's??

    Password Protected Ammo? Seriously.

Stumbled upon an article that linked me to this patent for microchipped ammunition that requires a password protected radio frequency to fire. Can't wait for the lobbyists to get a hold on this one... Read the patent here

    High pressure filter = Suppressor?

@ springwalk... That was kind of my thought, having the ability to easily swap the internals. A removed filter element could easily be cleaned via ultrasonic sink, and a good pressure wash. Could easily serialize the filter case, too. @ Zoogster... That's a very valid point that I hadn't...

Gun Broker and other internet auctions safe?

Have never had an issue with Gunbroker. Just be sure to read customer reviews/ratings of any seller. Email or call them in person as soon as you secure a sale, and use an FFL you trust to do the transfers. Also, since you're in oregon, check out SeattleGuns.net or PNW Forum for classifieds. If...

    High pressure filter = Suppressor?

Before I get flamed for it, I understand all the legal ramifications and requirements of manufacturing suppressors. That being said, I've had a thought buzzing around in my head for a while, and wondered what thoughts anyone might have. Would it be possible to build a suppressor out of...

(probably dumb) Bucky Balls in ammo?

All joking aside, someone SERIOUSLY needs to test out this theory, just to satisfy the curiosity of the masses. Or maybe we could send a group letter to Mythbusters, and get the whole thing televised!

    Classifying the Magpul AFG

Also, just found THIS THREAD from several months ago. Apparently Search=Fail. After reading the older thread, I've wrote Magpul asking them for any information, and I will wait for their reply before I contact the Feds again. Will keep you guys posted on the reply!

    Classifying the Magpul AFG

Just called the 1-800 number on the ATF website. The guy I talked to was very friendly, but not an NFA expert. He gave me a number for NFA customer service, which is 304-616-4500. They are only open M-F, 9AM-430PM, so I will have to call tomorrow. Probably a good number to have on hand though...

    Classifying the Magpul AFG

Yeah, I think you're right on it being an AOW instead of an SBR. Should've caught that one myself, but thanks for the correction. Anybody who has contacted the ATF for this sort of question, do you have an email address or postal address for a good contact? Looked at their website, and all I...

    Classifying the Magpul AFG

As far as legal definitions and interpretations, is there any way to get into trouble with the Magpul AFG? I know it's not a vertical/pistol grip, but I have an AR pistol that I want to mount an AFG on. Had the thought that it could possibly push the gun into the realm of an SBR? I tried to find...

    Family Discussion

Wow, lots of spirited and blunt replies! Almost want to link this thread to my dad and have him read it. No sense in dragging up the past though, and I have (right or wrong) pretty much given up on changing his mind. Wholeheartedly agree on most of the points made by everyone. Ignorance can be...

    Family Discussion

Haha, I hope not. He's never been a hunter, so maybe he just doesn't get it. What has always been weird to me is his apparent lack of overall gun knowledge. The guy spent 12 years in the Air Force, so you would think he would at least be familiar with the different types and how they are meant...
