Out of State officer carrying in Texas?

When Texas recognized most other states unilaterally, they only recognized states that allowed concealed carry. So states like NJ, NY and MD permits are recognized and valid in Texas because while restricted they do allow concealed carry and issue permits. At the time of the unilateral...

    Picking Up Brass at Matches

Required at our range, no brass/steel/aluminum can stay on the ground. Policing for brass, pasting, scoring all happens at the same time.

    Mag Pouch for IDPA Matches

I've had okay luck with a FOBUS paddle double mag holder. YMMV, but it works okay for me.

Do you let your destination determine what you CCH?

It is about threat levels. A corner store for bread at night is actually pretty high up on my threat level list. Going to Home Depot during the day to get lumber is pretty low. So it makes sense to assess the threat level before going out. However, if you CAN comfortably carry something...

My belt is running out of room.

I don't like having anything except pistol and reloads on my belt. So everything goes in my pockets. Wrangler has some great cargo pants and shorts available at Wal-mart and Target with left side (weak side for me) "cell phone pockets" which also work PERFECTLY as a mag pouch in IDPA for...

    Hi Point?

Congrats on your P95 purchase. Guys, you do realize that he already bought a Ruger? post#48 http://www.thehighroad.org/showpost.php?p=7125126&postcount=48 As far as the HP goes, I have nicer guns, but have thought about getting a HP 9mm just because...but it is low on my list.

Visiting Austin Tx - Gun Stores?

Where do you recommend that he goes? Yes, Conan's is still good. withoutink, since you are going to be on West Anderson Lane, that is actually right across the street from Conan's. Other good places right there. Madam mams (Thai), Alamo Drafthouse (movie theater that serves food and beer)...

Visiting Austin Tx - Gun Stores?

Yes. Rudy's is fine. The ones in Austin that I have been to are great. Meat is tender and juicy, creamed corn is tasty, new potatoes are buttery and the beans are great. And great breakfast tacos.

What guns are you drooling over right now?

Nothing special: Glock 26, Rock Island 1911 and a S&W Model 64. Someday, have other priorities at the moment.

Visiting Austin Tx - Gun Stores?

McBrides, GT Distributors, Red's (north and south stores also have ranges), Cabelas is fun El Chilito, get the puffy tacos. Rudy's BBQ - yes, it is a gas station, yes the BBQ is incredible! Good breakfast tacos too. Juan in a Million - migas are good (other food is so-so), but there has been a...

    First IDPA competition tmrw

My first match, first stage I shot LIGHTNING fast. My raw time was great. Adjusted time - 25 points down and a FTN. As I slowed down that day, my scores picked up! Listening to the other shooters helped quite a bit. You are on the right track.

Buying guns at a gun buyback

Thanks for the report tuckerdog1. I was wondering how it was going to go down and if there were any real gems being given away. Sounds like you got a decent deal and from the vids it didn't look like anyone was really getting rid of anything of any real value.

Why aren't you a cowboy action shooter?

Jeans, Boots, Hat, western shirt...sounds like I am doing work in the yard - not a big deal. Now cost to play, that is a big deal. Could do IDPA with a Used S&W Model 64 for ~$250 I believe, homemade holster (or just a cheaper say $20), a few speed loaders ($6/each). That's pretty cheap...

Need to purchase several small pistol safes/cases.

FAS1, you are absoultely correct. These won't stop a thief at all, and they are not quick access. To keep curious hands away they are okay, but after a kid is over the age of 3-4 and figures out how a combination lock works and starts at 000 and goes to 999 they will figure out the code. I...

    Revolver for a duty weapon

I am a bad to mediocre IDPA shooter shooting a Glock 9mm. Last match I had better times/scores than an Expert revolver shooter. Loaded to SSP capacity, not full magazine capacity. Full capacity (17+1) and I could do a whole stage where he would need 2 reloads.
