As already stated, don't try to push the envelope. Stick to the lighter weight bullets with modest charge rates (80-90% of max) and you should be safe.
I've loaded and shot upwards of 10k Rainier bullets of the 155 & 165 gr varieties. For my light target loads, I find that 231 works very...
Lots of fun.
If you get a couple of evenly matched shooters, they can go back and forth until they run out of spare mags. I watched a couple of friends run through 3 mags each before they declared it a draw. Hit rate was somewhere above 90%.
How old are those manuals?
I would be highly suspect of any reloading data offered in those older manuals. Double check the data they offer against the mfg'ers web site.
For the .270, you will probably want to pick up a trimmer of some sort. For small quantities the Lee trimmer will...
What calibers are you planning to reload? (That dictates what other things you need.)
The first missing item is a set of calipers -- almost any 6" stainless calipers will work. No need to go digital unless you want to spend the money you just saved.
The second missing item is another...
Since I was one of the main posters in the GT thread, I'll summarize my comments here.
The device is not the best made piece of machinery on the planet, but for the $26 Natchez is charging right now, it is a worthwhile investment. As already stated, throw away the plastic adaptors that come...
I use Rainier bullets almost exclusively in my glocks with no problems. These loads, however, are loaded to the lighter side (or less) of published data.
Hmm...
I guess I must be the luckiest Glock owner out there. I've fired upwards of 10k rounds through my 40 cal Glocks in the last 2 years and they didn't explode.
I did, however, see a guy blow up his brand new Sig using UMC ammo back in Feb. So this problem is not isolated to lead...
This is addressed in the Nov issue of Outdoor Life by Jim Carmichel. Might want to check it out as reference point.
He scientifically compared 1-8, 1-9, and 1-10 barrels using a variety of different bullets. The results were pretty interesting.
For reference, the X-ring on the 100-yd smallbore target is 1".
There aren't many top notch smallbore prone shooters that can consistently shoot 10X bulls even with the best rifles, ammo, optics, and patience.
Don't believe me, check the results from Perry.
I lived in Iowa City for 7 years and used The Ammo Bearer for several transfers. Last one I did cost me $25 (or less, I'll have to double-check). Of course, that was 3 years ago.
If they are still in business, you might want to give them a call. As for Scheel's, they can keep their...
