    Accurate 2230-C smokeless powder

From Accurate powder archive. http://www.accuratepowder.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/DP2230-C.pdf I would compare the loads listed on the container with data listed at their site for A-2460 to double check. NCsmitty

What on earth is a Navy Arms Siamese Mauser .45-70?

The Siamese Mauser M98 was manufactured by Japan in the early 1900's by contract for the Siamese government, and it was unique by having a slanted magazine that was designed to feed rimmed cartridges, and avoid rim lock. They carry the chrysanthemum stamp of the Koishikawa Arsenal. Navy Arms...

    Arbor press vs. hammer

I don't usually use my arbor press for small pins but it is handy to have for many uses. I removed the bayonet bracket from one of my M44 Mosins with it. I don't use it often, but it doesn't take up much bench space, an it's ready when I am. NCsmitty

    first 22 advise

As mentioned, a bolt action that handles S,L & LR is preferable for learning, and I think that a single stroke pellet rifle might be a better choice for now, with 22 Rimfire ammo double and triple the cost of a couple years ago, and sometimes hard to find, so I understand. I have several 22 RF...

    All this 22-250 talk

As mentioned, copper fouling is often an issue on neglected barrels in HV calibers. A lick and a promise sometimes isn't enough. Equal loads will create higher pressures in fast twist barrels, that's just the nature of the beast. NCsmitty

    7mm Rem Mag help needed

I understand that there are still shortages in powders and such, and this venture is fairly new for you, but a quick look at a burn rate chart would give you more options than IMR4831 or Rel-22. In fact, there are some 30 + powders that would be a better choice than IMR4064. The 7mm REMAG...

Is there a reason to get a 22-250 Remington?

That's a sweet rifle, and with a Unertl too. NCsmitty

Is there a reason to get a 22-250 Remington?

When Remington introduced the M788 in 22-250, they sold like hotcakes at around $100, and I did some load development for relatives and friends, and the M788 could shoot the lights out with about any load tried. I later had a Remington 40 XB in 22-250 for a time that was amazingly accurate, and...

    started annealing rifle brass today

+1 for rcmodel. The 308 necks do not appear to have been touched much. Concentrate on the necks and the heat will take care of the shoulders. I too have used the pan method, and it works great, and protects the rest of the case. You might need a larger flame front, instead of a pencil flame...

Bolt hard to open 243 WSSM

You should be able to reuse your bullets if you use a collet or inertia puller. As you probably know, wssm brass is much heavier than most standard brass and you can work it hard by full length sizing. The scarcity of the brass makes it important to take steps to salvage at every opportunity...

    red dust from 1990's powder

I would mark a suitable container, and pour the powder in a kitchen sieve to remove as much rust as possible, because it doesn't look too bad, and try to salvage it. Point being, get it out of the rusting can. I had some old IMR3031 that did the same thing, and I was able to salvage it. It still...

Anyone use a Wilson Arms Mauser Barrel ?

Wilson barrels have a good reputation as a good low cost alternative, although I have not used them personally. For Turk K.Kale Mauser actions, Remington take off barrels can be threaded to fit and often can be bought reasonably on Ebay or www.gunbroker.com. I have threaded 270 and 22-250 Rem...

little problem with my .223 loading.

Your component list indicates that you are basically making plinking ammo, and variations can happen but usually Hornady bulk FMJ is more consistent than what you're showing. If you want to build more accurate loads, use a single brand of case and commercial bullets like V-Max, Z-Max or some of...

    Magnum Primers = higher velocity?

You can play around with primers and powders and different loads but the limiting factor is your 16"barrel. You would likely see instant gratification with a 20" barrel. NCsmitty

    30-30 vs 308MX FTX Bullets - Whoops

That's not correct, the FTX bullets are essentially expanding hollow points with a polymer tip that fills the hollow point for an aerodynamic advantage and a cushion in the tubular magazines. The 308 MX FTX bullet likely has a heavier jacket than the 30-30 FTX because of the higher velocities...

    Formsby Tung Oil

Several years ago I decided to refinish my FN Mauser 308 Norma mag stock using Formsby Tung oil, and it did take a long time to dry between coats, but it wasn't the final finish, and the final touch was 10 light coats of satin polyurethane. I was very pleased with the results. NCsmitty

    7.62x54r

IMO, you need to at least follow the start load recommendations listed at www.hodgdon.com, and I always use a magnum primer with the older style ball powders like H414/Win760, (same powder). They are just harder to ignite than extruded powders, and the slightly hotter primers often give more...

    Who has Hodgdon 4198 Powder?

Here's a site with some info on your caliber. I'm sure there are other powders that will work as well as the 4198 powders, and perhaps be more available. http://www.saubier.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7254 NCsmitty

    Marlin 25N Need bolt

Not for sure, but I believe that the Marlin 925 was a reincarnated 25N, but a bolt for that too will likely be hard to find. NCsmitty

    Bavarian Mauser Build is done!

That is a wonderful restoration, and an obvious source of pride, and the pictures are great. The 8x57 is often overlooked, but the influx of Mauser rifles have helped increase it's popularity. It's certainly a potent round for deer size game. NCsmitty
