    Did I make a mistake for buying a .357Mag?

Not at all. What you did was give yourself a lot of options. Your 357 Magnum can use 38 specials, 38 +p and 357 magnums. Instead of having only one type of ammo on the shelves you have three. Obviously its all similar, but if you'd have bought a 38 special, for instance, youd be limited in what...

    Tree rats when it raining?

    1. Ignore ignorant advice to shoot nests. 2. if its raining really heavy, dont waste your time. 3. if its really windy, same thing, dont waste the day. You might get one but for the most part squirrel dont seem to be out and active when the wind is kicked up hard or when its a downpour.

First grouse hunt of the season. (pics)

I havent ever grouse hunted but Im going to try it out this year. I ran across a lot of them squirrel hunting the past few years, probably should have been out there for grouse too. definitely something Im going to hunt alone.

    Easiest CALIBERs to RELOAD?

Ive only reloaded 38/357 but I cant imagine anything else being any easier. I have a Lee hand press and some very basic stuff and it all comes out pretty much perfect every time. No problems yet or complaints. Heres a pic of my reloading and casting stuff...

    12 gauge reloading question.

My wife has some really cool tools for working on jewelry that made it easy to open up a shell take out the 1-1/8oz of steel #4 shot and replace it with exactly 1-1/8oz of #6 Steel shot. They closed back up so well that you cant even tell they were ever opened up. If it works as well as the lead...

    12 gauge reloading question.

Let me throw in here that I am in NO way condemning lead or saying that anyone else should switch or be forced to use steel just because I have chosen to use it. The decision was mine to make and I made it. MY choice should not be used to affect any other hunters decisions. Most hunters love...

    12 gauge reloading question.

Actually I like it after shooting it a bit. My patterns are more consistent overall and I dont have hardly any flyers like I did with lead. Even without a choke at all the steel seems to lay out a really nice, uniform pattern. Other than that, I guess I just like the idea of using steel over...

    12 gauge reloading question.

Let me be honest here. Ive done this same sort of thing way back when with lead shot, but I realize that steel is a different sort of beast for whatever reason. So Im wondering if its going to be 'ok' like it was with the lead shot we used to swap out.

    12 gauge reloading question.

I have a REALLY stupid question here, so please try to keep down your lunches here. Lets say I go buy a 10lb bag of #5 STEEL shot like I want to use and a scale and measure out 1-1/4 oz of shot. Now lets say I go buy a box of 1-1/4oz steel shells that have the velocity Im looking for. Now lets...

    12 gauge reloading question.

Thanks snuffy. :) I saw the Alliant Steel last night on their site. All their recipes for steel seem to use it so I guess I will get that for the steel if i end up going this route. Not really sure I want to limit the fps for any reason other than recoil, but since even the top end loads Ive...

Do you REALLY clear the chamber @ every fence crossing / gate opening??

No clue except that it was a shotgun. Based on the guy and what I know about him Id guess either a 12 or 16 gauge.

Do you REALLY clear the chamber @ every fence crossing / gate opening??

And uh....didnt I say I had no desire to hunt dove ? :) The topic is irrelevant as far as Im concerned because I dont hunt dove and wont be anytime soon. For what I DO hunt, squirrel, Ive yet to lose one because of not keeping a shell chambered :)

    12 gauge reloading question.

I got into reloading for my 357 earlier this year, so I have a little understanding of reloading at this point. I typically hunt squirrel, though I might try some grouse when the season starts. I have looked around and dont see what Id really like to try as far as 12 gauge ammo goes. Without...

Do you REALLY clear the chamber @ every fence crossing / gate opening??

eh, I dont know. I have an uncle who hunts like youre talking about and I know we both go out and on a given day we can both bring in the same 2-3 squirrel. Im generally happy with one or two and I typically take those within the first 30 minutes on many days. Maybe because Im covering more...

Do you REALLY clear the chamber @ every fence crossing / gate opening??

Ive actually tried that a few times and it seems to be fine. Maybe try it more often and see what happens. I'll take mine off the gun entirely before using it and trusting it. We had a guy we knew 20 years or so ago who was showing a 12ga to a friend who didnt know it was loaded (neither of...
