RRA vs CMMG Help on my first AR

My opinion - RRA has a good rep for a good reason. You can't go wrong with Rock River.

    Function Test for 1903A3

Dry firing the 1903 is not a good idea. It is possible if you dry fire a 1903 that the firing pin can become wedged in its hole in the bolt. Then the bolt is very difficult to open when it tries to pull the firing pin out. I have several 1903 rifles and this happens with only one of them. I...

    M1 Carbine failure to feed

The problem didn't make any sense to me until I read Dave Markowitz post. Something is truly amiss if the op rod does not move at all. No matter how crummy or under powered the ammo, the op rod would move some. That is, unless the rifle is fixed so it will not run!

    AR Question

The new 4473 has three categories and they are 'long gun', 'hand gun', and 'other'. A stripped AR receiver falls under 'other'. There is no category 'rifle' and there is no category 'receiver'. The ATF has a policy statement out on 'other' and it is as someone here mentioned. The other...

    American Rifle

To me, the American Rifle is a 1903 Springfield in 30-06. But, to bring it up to date a Winchester model 70 made before 64 or the current ones made by FNH. The FNH company is not truely American, but, the rifle is made in the USA and it is as good or maybe even better than the pre 64 models -...

    Garand Gurus - Questions!!!

Springfield serial numbers from 3627442 to 3717867 were April 1945. Your receiver would fall into that category.

How many rounds= bluing gone on the lands?

I don't believe that it is normal to have a gun that has the inside of the barrel blued - or, I never saw one. Maybe someone that is familiar with manufacturing processes of Colt VS Sig can pipe-in. The only time I ever saw the finish coat enter the barrel is on a re-blue job.

    Bushmaster Jamming Problem

REDHAT had the best advice - IMHO. You have to narrow the problem down. It does sound like an ejector problem or extractor problem .... and that could be caused by a short cycle ... that in turn is caused by a gas problem. The method outlined by REDHAT will help determine if it is short...

    Ammo for S&W 642

Not too say ya do - but, it is easy to heal the gun in double action. Shooting a double action snubbie takes some practice and you can heal it and never realize it. If so, you will shoot high.

    problems with scope on 10FP

I had a similar experience with a picatinny rail on a Savage. The thing was so far out of whack I could not zero the gun using all of the windage available in the scope. I had no idea what was wrong and was going nutz. A friend of mine let me use a rail he had and his scope to test the...

.357 Magnum for Long Range Target Shooting

JPWILLY is right - my opinion. A 357 with a 110 grain bullet is about as fast as you can go for velocity. With a max load in a rifle you can attain about 2400 FPS with that bullet. If you run a ballistics trajectory calculation you will find that you are only going around 780 FPS at 500 yards...

    A bedding question

Use A LOT of release agent. Also, get some modeling clay and push it into any recesses or holes that you do not want the bedding to get into. Like Krs said - make sure you put the release agent on the bolts and threads. When the bedding dries it is like cement.

    Antique Kentucky rifle value?

I once had a pair of dueling pistols and wanted to find out how much they were worth. The best I could come up with was they were worth whatever a person would pay for them. With a rifle like this the value is with the collector that wants it. To ballpark a price take it to a collectors...
