I only have one gun that I don't shoot and it is my Dad's Marlin 30-30 made in the 50's that he used to take many a deer in his youth. He is 93 now and I probably will never shoot it. Everything else gets sighted in and shot. If I had a safe queen, then I would not shoot it but I don't.
Good job on your first hunt. Nice buck. I used a Marlin 336 in 30-30 for my first deer way back when and this last season my son got his first deer with a Marlin 36 in 30-30. Great guns.
I have a 4095 and bought it used. Since I got it I have never had a jam and I shoot mostly the cheapest I can find, wolf. I put a red dot scope on it and I feel confident with this rifle. Works for me and I'm keeping mine.
I have one on my Hi Point 4095 carbine. Works great in that system. I also have one on my 10/22. I just have the cheapo Tasco and BSA's. Work great for me.
I am in line to send my LCP in for mods. I never thought I would drop a gun and am very careful but I have accidently dropped a pistol before in my home. Accidents happen. You can't plan for them.
I have taken deer with an AK-47 variant rifle(SLR-95) as well as a SKS. I used Wolf HP in all my kills and it worked just fine with me. Shot placement is the key and I didn't shoot over 150 yards. I tried SP rounds but found that the tip would get deformed in the loading process from the mag...
Last year I got a big sized 12 point mule deer. I usually hunt for antlers but this year will be different. I have been hit by hard economics times and may not be able to afford to go hunting as much as I have in the past. I am going out with my son and will fill tags as soon as I can as long...
If I was huntng in a stand in the rain I would use a poncho and keep my rifle covered. I have hunted in the rain using stalking as my method. Actually it rained after I was already out in the field. For myself, I don't like to do that. Visibility sucks and your boots feel like they weigh 20...
My youngest son and I went out hunting last year and landed this bad boy along the river. I was hunting with my brother and brother in law. Some good times there.
I used to hunt with a Yugo M-48A in 8mm and had it scoped with a Weaver fixed 6x. I had taken both whitetail and mule deer with it at ranges all under 200 yards. I had the original stock on it. I switched deer rifles simply because the M-48A is too heavy for my tastes. After carrying it all...
Thought I would give my two cents. First of all, it depends on what kind of hunting I am doing, stalking versus still hunting. It most cases, I prefer to stalk my deer so I travel light. Usually in South Dakota, by late November or early December the weather is turning colder. I usually...
