My daughter wants a rifle. A pink one.

Find a decent .22 and paint the stock pink. I painted an extra 10/22 stock pink for my wife (and inlaid a nice heart-shaped pattern of plastic jewels on the side); it is, of course, now "her gun". Last time I took the boy scouts out shooting, I made sure to get pictures of all of them...

Getting into guns in Johnson Co. KS

I'm in Jo Co as well. The Bullet Hole is a decent range, but it's kind of expensive (no other nearby indoor options though). Missouri has a few state ranges in the area--Parma Woods in Parkville, MO and Lake City out by Blue Springs. Pigeon Hill up by St. Joseph is an unsupervised state...

    Question on Mil-surp ammo

Shooting good-quality surplus in your gun won't hurt it. Aussie .308 gives ~1" - 1.5" groups in my Savage 10FP; certainly good enough for casual shooting. In .223, look at the Black Hills "blue-box" 55 gr; good ammo by all reports and only a couple cents more per round than surplus stuff.

Is there any such thing as a health club with an indoor range attached?

The Orem, UT community center has a range (along with all the normal rec center facilities).

Best money ever spent on a firearm?

Ruger 22/45 - $189 new. Only gun I have that never gets left home when I go to the range; cheap to shoot, reliable, and accurate. Marlin 60 - bought it for $60 shipped from a member here IIRC. Add an older made-in-Japan Tasco 4X scope and some rings and I have a reliable and accurate .22...

Basic EDC Knife in the $30 range?

Spyderco Native. Solid design, good steel (S30V), big enough to be practical but small enough to avoid scaring people. ~$42 at Walmart (but apparently not every store carries them).

    Sound off, Utah....

    Hello Utah

Rangemasters is a nice place to shoot if you're down south; good guys running the place too. A big +1 for FBMG as well (it's nice having a gun store 2 blocks away).

    Yugo m59/66?

You can't go wrong with a Yugo SKS--but you need to accept it as a mil-surp rifle in its original format. Sporterizing an SKS is probably not worth the time and effort; if you want an accurate scoped rifle, you should start with a modern platform (Rem., Savage, etc.). That said, SKS's are...

New To Me Sig 225....the reason I'll never own another Kahr

I love my P225. Although it's not the smallest pistol around, it makes a great carry piece. Sitting next a my 226, the 225 does not look that much smaller; however, the difference is very noticeable when carrying (I think the lack of a decocker "bump" on the 225 makes a difference there)...

    Which M4A3? Part 2

+1 for CMMG You get all the goodies: 1/7 twist, 4150 steel, M4 contour, etc. for aroung $500 for a complete upper. Mine is great and everyone else who owns 'em seem to think so as well.

Range Bags - What do you use and what do you keep in it?

I-Shot bag for short trips to the range. Very nice bag with plenty of room for 3 pistols, ammo, mags, eyes/ears, and other stuff; everything fits well in little rugs/pocekts/pouches. If I'm heading out to the desert for a few hours, I just use a couple ammo cans in addition to the I-Shot bag.

    Help please--very quick Savage question!

Thanks for the replies so far! I looked closer at the finish around the screw holes and it appears to be something black over the factory black (phosphate or similar?) finish. Could it be leftover epoxy from a bedding job, or just a lot of excess loctite? It scrapes off relatively easily...

    Help please--very quick Savage question!

I just bought a Savage 10FP .308 off Gunbroker and have a question for other Savage owners. On my supposedly NIB gun, there is no finish around the scope mount screw holes in the top of the receiver; it almost looks like a scope had been mounted and the finish removed--is this typical of Savage...

Any other shooters here in University/College

Working on my master's degree in accounting at Brigham Young University. Everyone who knows me very well know of the gun "enthusiasm" (habit/addiction/ etc.). Utah is a pretty gun-friendly state, so it doesn't seem to be an issue; and BYU is about as conservative as universities come...
