Just purchased "Texan Patterson"; old gun, but NIB w/case and accessories. Binding up was a BIG poblem: cleared it up with some 1000 grit wet/dry and a thick piece of glass rubbed over the breech end of the barrel to get some cylinder-barrel clearance. Pietta brand. Use "wonder wads" soaked...
My vote is for one of the real early 1911's; high polish charcoal blue finish w/fire blue screws and other small parts. AND good old fashioned Colt Quality Control - the 01911 and 01918 were sadly lacking in this respect. Cost? Very, very expensive but I think they would sell well.
Finally heard from Assistant General Counsel at Colt. Clean offer to replace the "O" marked thumb safety on 01918; and to insure that proper finish (Carbonic/Matt Black) units are installed.
Problem remains with 01911. It received moderate scratching in the finish only on the left portion...
Quality Control and Inspection after work must not be done at Colt. Never got a responce to my letter about the problems with 4660WMK and 2081WWI: now it is time to get nasty. Certified mail to document activities prior to a lawsuit.
4660WMK was sent to Colt for recall: pistol was unfired, new in the box when shipped. Came back 5 days later with many extremely small scratches in the finish on the left side of the slide. Am no expert but appears slide was laid on a bench that had small metal shavings as "scratches" do not...
Colt Recall of 01911 & 01918 pistols, June 2009
Many public thinks to "Old Fluff" for info on just how the WW I reproductions differ from the Army Issue 1911A1's in the thumb safety department; and why they need to be handfitted.
As a sort of interesting side note I was able to visit with a...
A recall of a mechanical safety device on a firearm is IMPORTAINT as it speaks to the operational aspects of the gun. Colt's position that the pistols must be returned to them for installation of the "new" safety and marking of the frame to show compliance with the recall is meaningless w/o the...
Just got booted from "1911 forum"; trolling -whatever that means; I was raising hell about the recall and colt's failure to mark the safety's - how else to tell a non-spec one from a new one? Either that or because the administrator of the site is a self proclaimed gunsmith and did not agree...
Colt 01911 & 01918 Recall of June 2009: Spoke with Karen (who took Cindy's place at Colt Customer Service) about recall; sent e-mail to her - it was returned; next sent questions to Colt on e-mail address on their site - it was returned! I am still not impressed with Quality Control at Colt as...
Colt 01918
Just shot the new 01918 -the so called "black gun". Ran a couple of magazines filled with Lake City .45 FMJ ACP and it functioned flawlessly.
Next, put it into a friends Ransome (?) rest and we got group after group of 3 round cloverleafs - all rounds touching - at 25 yards. Most...
COLT 01911 faults
After saving for a couple of years got my Colt 01911 (4660 WMK) and am nothing but dissapointed in it. Ditto prior post of poor polish before blue applied, purple color grip safety, ugly and poorly stamped "rollmarks". My gun purchased from internet dealer, arrived "factory...
