I think I'm inclined to go that direction (add the hole to the bottom metal), because I'm hesitant to mess with a bedding job that worked so well and I can always go back to my previous setup. (I'd rather have an accurate rifle than one that's not accurate with a hinged floor plate.)
Thanks...
I'm looking for advice on an attempted fix for my (formerly) most accurate CF rifle (well under MOA). Thanks in advance for any shared experiences or advice. Here's the story:
I got a great deal on a Winchester M70 243 WSSM with a flexi-flyer cheap plastic OEM stock and blind magazine. I...

I thought we were talking about maximum / near maximum range trajectories here. Assuming the bullet remains stable and does not tumble, the BC is very significant.
If the bullet is launched vertically, I assmue it will tumble back to earth, not regain stable flight, and the...
The assertion you quoted is correct in general terms, given the context of external ballistics in the earth's atmosphere. It makes no sense to ignore "all other variables." The significant factor is not the mass of the bullet, but rather its ballistic coefficient. Within the set of bullets of...
This was not an aimed shot so the contemplation of the visibility and motion of a target (there was no target) is not actually relevant to an analysis of the odds. One could calculate the odds of a round fired with a random muzzle orientation from any given point and time striking a person...
Long Range ML--Quicktarget Maximum Range Results
Yes--the earth has an atmosphere and drag is THE factor on bullet speed (terminal verlocity) at point of impact on a maximum range shot.
This accident illustrates why I did not take an uphill shot on a doe standing on the top of a ridge with...

It looks like this post-64 M70 has a floating barrel, but I can't get a dollar bill to slide down the barrel. Maybe that's enough of a reason to re-bed. I haven't spent much time on load development but my best load shoots 1.25" at 100 yards, which I figure is okay for a...
Thanks, natman. I didn't mention that my first attempt at a fix was to take a thread or two off the screw in length but it wasn't enough. Of course I could shorten the screw even more and, given that a popsicle stick thickness solves the problem, I think I could solve the bottoming problem by...
I picked up an XTR Featherweight in .30-06 with the factory McMillan stock . It was manufactured around 1990, I think, and it's in great shape but it has one problem. Unless I leave the front stock screw quite loose, the screw bottoms and binds on the bolt. It appears that this stock may have...
I'm milling a 4140 receiver for a single shot break action turkey gun. It'll have a commercially available 12ga barrel chambered for 3" shells. Does anyone know where I might find test shells or test load data for pressure testing? I need to produce in excess of worst case pressure for a...
