    the Swiss teen rifle festival

Great article! My dad, half Swiss himself, is on a bit of a Swiss kick these days. I'll be printing that off and giving it to him. He'll love the "Shoot twice and go home" quote. *I* love that quote. :) Thanks for posting this- I'm also going to pick up Holbrook's book for his b-day.

Amazing mediocrity and the range--the arm chair commandos.

I guess I didn't take Curare's post the same way others did. Maybe it's just the way I was taught to shoot, but for the most part when I go to the range I try to work on something or learn something each time- and I guess if my meager knowledge could help someone cure a flinch or something...

Found on Glock Talk Forum:Slide Slam on 1911

It may not hurt anything... and it may hurt stuff. But you won't see me dropping the slide/bolt full-force on the empty chamber on any of my toys.

The next time I'm thinking about NOT Carrying

LaVere, Can I ask approximately where this took place? There has been a rash of purse snatchings in MI of late and I am not sure the police have caught the guy. Thanks for the reminder to carry when we can. jim

    Range time for an almost-newbie.

I'd just like to add that upon further review, that is a very fine left hand dominant grip...

    Range time for an almost-newbie.

*thud* That was me being knocked over by a feather. Excuse me gentlemen. I am so used to right handers that when I saw the left thumb curled over that way my mind said "hold up! someone's thumb gonna get nicked by the slide!" My apologies. You got me... this time! :D

    Range time for an almost-newbie.

Err, the hold she's using in that pic will get her a nice scar with a 1911 that doesn't have a beavertail style grip safety. That's all I was saying. My dear old dad has a nifty scar on the web of his hand from when he once went from a revolver to a 1911 and forgot to adjust his grip. Good...

Who carries a gun to church?

For some reason I can't vote... but if I could, I'd vote "no". Unfortunately one of the conditions of CCW in MI is that we can't carry in houses of worship.

    Range time for an almost-newbie.

Just let her know that the revolver style hold she's using on the Glock doesn't necessarily go for all semi-autos. :) I've seen some nifty scars on the web of some guys' hands from forgetting that and shooting a 1911. jim

    a range story

This happens all too often... I've seen it several times... If I can do so without looking like a busybody I will try to politely offer suggestions. But you'll never help the ubermacho jerks. They will have none of it. The mentality of someone who would just hand a 12 guage shotgun or even a...

    Surefire insanity

IMHO: pricey, yes. Worth it, yes. OK, allow me to 'splain They are expensive, and I too wish they were less expensive by half. At least. But they are the same top quality the Gov't gets. They work. The craftsmanship and quality on those lights are fantastic, and the technology they use is...

    Hollywood Celebrity Shoot 04

Mrs. Toro Huh, I hadn't known any of that beside that she was from South Africa. Thanks for the info. I just thought she was purdy ;) jim

    Hollywood Celebrity Shoot 04

Not to slight the event, but it would be nice to see a few newer/bigger names in there. A Brad Pitt or Charlize Theron (only picked because she's my favorite ;) ) would help things a bit. Harrison Ford shoots but doesn't want that to get out. Thanks Harry. What good does that do the RKBA...

    Do it yourself webgear???

Good topic. I have looked into this as well but haven't acted on it yet. I would like to make my own custom bags as well as a "drag-bag" to my own specifications... I look forward to seeing other's responses. One thing to think about is how thick your sewing machine can sew. I don't know...

    Silly Gun Ads

I thought I was the only one who thought that about the BLACKHAWK!!!!!111!11LOL advertising. I'm in advertising and the first time I saw that stuff I couldn't believe it. There's some company, I think it's "Iron Wolf" that has this awfully drawn werewolf for its mascot... I have seriously...

    Bye Bye Glocks etc.

Rule #1 I grew up with: Never sell your guns. Unless I won one that was worth a fortune and could sell it and buy a bunch of ones I want, they're staying in my collection.

Lessons learned at the range, such as...

Things I learned at the range: * Only a complete a-hole takes his girlfriend out and lets her shoot the 12 gauge (or full-on higher powered guns) with no instruction. I've seen a lot of people do this (not just to girfriends, either) and I'm sure there are more than a few people that will...

Has anyone actually read books against gun ownership?

Who has to read a book? All you have to do is watch the news every dang night. I've read some fiction books (can't remember which ones) where the general attitude seems to be that only hillbillies own guns. Or only the "proper authorities" own guns. jim p.s. I had no idea Travis McGee...
