    Velocity descrepancies from load manuals?

Thanks for the responses guys. RidgwayCO is right, the Sportsmaster is a JHC made by Sierra, not Speer. My bad. I know the published load data is based on pressure, not velocity. One of the reasons I'm interested in this to begin with is my 357pd was purchased as a woods gun. My other...

    Velocity descrepancies from load manuals?

Ok, thanks guys, I feel better now. I use the Lee Factory Crimp on my .41 loads, so I guess I'm ok there. I'll slowly start increasing the load...not sure if I'll ever get to the max published load, as the recoil is already pretty brisk.

    Velocity descrepancies from load manuals?

I'm new to reloading, just having made my 3rd batch of reloads (357 sig and .41 mag). My shooting chrony just came in from Midway, so I went out today to measure some of my .41 mag loads. Here is the starting load that I used, per the Speer #14 manual. Powder: 20.5 grns of H110 (each load...

    New handloader with .41 mag

Well, took the .41 out for the first time, and shot about 50 of the above loads. No squibs or signs of overpressure on the brass. The only issue was very slight crimp jump on the last round of each cylinder. Accuracy was nothing to write home about, but these cartridges were ok for my first...

    New handloader with .41 mag

These bullets have faint notches that run perpendicular to the bullet, in the location of a canellure. Are these not considered cannelures? The starting load I posted above (20.5 grns H110) shows 1237 ft/sec out of a 6"barrel (Speer reloading manual #14). With 18.5 grns H110 (-10%) and my...

    New handloader with .41 mag

Thanks for the quick reply Fred. I was/am a little concerned about the velocity...my revolver has a 4" barrel, so I'm hoping the velocity stays low enough that the plated bullet's accuracy/integrity don't become an issue. Would dropping a "starting" charge by 10% be a cause for a safety...

    New handloader with .41 mag

I recently picked up a S&W 357pd in .41 mag. The expense of the ammo finally pushed me into getting into reloading. I read ABC's of Reloading and the latest Speer manual. I am loading Berry's 210 grain with 18.5 gns. of H110 over a CCI 350 (magnum) large pistol primer. I couldn't find any...

    S&W Scandium questions

I ordered the 500 grips last night! Now comes the hard part...waiting for the gun to ship to my FFL :banghead: Thanks again!

    Yet more Scandium questions

Thanks to those whose contributed to my thread on the S&W 357 PD (down below). I went ahead and purchased the PD, it should be here in about a week. In the meantime I'm having fun loading up on accessories. I've heard the Sc/Ti components are hard to clean. Anything special I need to use...

    S&W Scandium questions

Thanks for the feedback...I went ahead and bought it. At the price I got it for I can always turn around and sell it if the recoil is too much. Anyone have any recommendations for a holster? I would like something that is discreet (doesn't scream "gun") and would still be reasonably...

    S&W Scandium questions

Thanks, that helps. Glad to hear that not everyone is having problems with the internal lock. Have you had any crimp jump issues with your .44? What kind of issues are there with the frames? Thanks again! IBCGUY

    S&W Scandium questions

Greetings! I came across what I think is a good deal on a NIB S&W 357PD (4", .41 mag, scandium/titanium). I've always liked the looks of these guns but couldn't afford the retail price. The gun won't be shot much, but will be carried on backpacking and fly fishing trips. The .41 is fine...
