300 Savage did it again this year

Well, been QUITE awhile since I've been on here, but thought of you guys today. Last year I was researching my hubby's great grandfather's 300 savage, and he shot a MONSTER buck last year. Well, it's the first day of the season today, and he may have topped it. Unbelieveable, but same gun...

    300 Savage did the job!

I'm sold! My husband got up this morning and finished filling his tag with a huge doe with one shot. Down she went. Our freezer's stocked for the year. :)

    300 Savage did the job!

The future of our 99 Savage Here's a picture of our son who will inherit the 99 Savage some day. As you can tell, he was really excited for his dad. What a memory. Trina

    300 Savage did the job!

Yes, this old gun is making this beautiful thing even more sweeter. He took a 75-yard shot and it stumbled & ran directly toward him, to within 20 yards. 'Course he shot it again because he wasn't giving him the opportunity to get away. I'm thrilled he took my advice and took the Savage...

    300 Savage did the job!

It's the first day of buck season here in Pennsylvania, and my husband decided to take his great-grandfather's 300 savage for a walk this morning. By 7 a.m. I got a call. I attached a picture of proof that it done him good. :) Trina

    Worst rifle paint job ever...

Guess it takes a real 'manly man' to carry a gun like that. It's the only way he could be taken seriously. :)

    243 & 300 Savage

My un-educated guess for the 243 was also the 70's, so thanks for clarifying. I'm still curious why the serial number is showing up as invalid. Yep, guess the next step would be to clean them up & get shootin'. Happily, I only live about 15 minutes away from Cabelas in Hamburg. We were...

Need help from Savage 99 expert

Shawnee, how interesting! You're making me hang on to my guns a little tighter. Thanks for sharing the great info. Never thought I'd be teaching my husband about guns. And, quite possibly, the rest of the family, too. :)

Need help from Savage 99 expert

I did find a site to date them, but the 243 is showing 'invalid #' with the C in the front. If I drop the C it's telling me 1906, which I don't think is correct.

    243 & 300 Savage

I posted 2 pictures on the "Need help from a 99 Savage Expert" thread, and it's not letting me download the same pictures here. Please take a look and tell me your thoughts. At least this way you know these guns are not figments of my imagination. :) Trina

Need help from Savage 99 expert

Here's two quick pics to take a look at. Thanks so much for sharing your story. My dad was an avid hunter (mostly deer, pheasant, and 'varmints'), and when he died back in 1985 (he was 73) my oldest brother took all of his guns. A few years back my husband mentioned to my mom that I would...

Need help from Savage 99 expert

My husband inherited his great-grandfather's old 1899 .300 Savage, and I inherited my dad's old 99 .243. I wondered if anyone out there would be able to help me to age them. Not sure what they're worth on the market, but both are gems to us because they are family history and the only two guns...

    243 & 300 Savage

Thanks, everyone. I'm very excited because this has sparked a whole new interested in my husband for old guns (and me, too!). Maybe I'll hit the library and see if they have any information on them there. I'll also take the advice to put up another thread to a 99 Savage expert. I'm happy...

    243 & 300 Savage

Hi, and thanks for the quick response. The 300 is (I believe) an 1899/99, and the 243 (again, I'm guessing from what I read) is a 99E. Both are lever actions. I thought ALL teenagers were crazy (I think it has something to do with their hormones). LOL This one's just a bit mis-directed I...

    243 & 300 Savage

Hi, I'm brand new to this forum, and I'm not sure if I'll sound like a total idiot or not, but figured it wouldn't hurt to try. My husband inherited his great-grandfather's 300 Savage (serial # 330929) and never really took the time to 'bond' with the gun. This weekend he suggested he was...
