which 12ga shotshell to use for american trap?

If you are serious, it is best you stick with something. There are velocity and pattern differences between the loads. It doesn't have to be expensive. I use #8 at all distances. In checking the pattern at the pattern board, I get more consistent fill-in with #8. Bob

    Problem with 629-6

Chances are that if you had it loosen once, it will do it again. I've never been able to make one stick without loctite after it gave trouble. Bob

Browning BAR or Remington 7400 or ???

Hometheaterman, I think you might need a good cleaning, and, to make sure everyting is put back together with factory torque specs. It should shoot better than that. Bob

    remington 740 vs 7400?

Some are fine, some are not. It doesn't much matter if it is a 740 or a 7400 (or a 742). The 750 is the current semi-auto model, the pump model is the 760. If you want reliability, the pump is a step above. I had a 740 that was very reliable with all kinds of ammunition, others have not...

    S&w 629...........

Your capabilities, under hunting conditions, is the defining factor. There is, of course, other contributors, including load and bullet construction/type. I limit shots at deer to less than 100 yards or so. It isn't like the deer just fall over as they might when hit with something...

    survival gear in small aircraft

A firearm give you choices - it can be used for signalling, defense, and to gather food. If you only want something for defense, I suggest pepper spray. For wilderness survival, I certainly prefer a weapon. A shotgun is a good choice. You can get a short (24-26") shotgun with a few...

New 629 Mountain Gun, pros & cons

The mountain guns are just fine for durability. As rcmodel points out, you certainly wouldn't want to shot a bunch of 300 gr hot loads through it at a range session. You also can load specials in it for practice. In a situation where you need the full loads, you will be practiced and you...

bolt action vs semi-auto: what questions do I need to be asking myself?

Lots of semis are used and the deer are just as dead! I rarely hunt elk or deer in wide open areas, so I carry a BAR in .30-06. It is plenty of gun and plenty accurate. Rarely do I use a second shot, but, it is there. If you are planning on the longer-than-200-yards-every-time a bolt is...

    About the browning BLR...

Mine has a Williams peep sight - I wanted to both keep the weapon lightweight and have something "different" from all my telescopic sights. I've accomplished both. Mine is a 7mm-08. Bob

How many of you have bought rifles w/o telling your wife...?

Whatever works in YOUR marriage. Who's to say what works for two people? There's certainly no rule that works for everyone. My wife and I have a $1,000 guideline - if it is more than that, we check. Never been an issue with a gun when I did exceed that amount. She was with me when my...

    Remington 742 Woodsmaster

The 742's can be finicky, but, if you get one that works, they usually remain so. I have one that has been dead nuts reliable. I've been thinking about an upgrade, but, I really don't know to what. A .30-06 w/ scope in average (!) condition could go $400-$450 here in Western WA state. One...
