    Starline Brass, finally lost one

Sorry to hear of your loss. I truly understand your grief! I quit using my Starline cases for .45 acp matches and just use "junk" brass so I don't have it bugging me if I can't find a case.:uhoh:

45acp case damage, new reloader, help

Second trip to the range since the last post. 120 rounds with RCBS 201 and 3.8 grains of Bullseye, 119 of 120 into a nice pile a few feet to my right, and behind the firing line. One round of 120 bounced off the baffles between the firing stations during a match and somehow fell in front...

45acp case damage, new reloader, help

thump rrr and 1911Tuner - Thank You! The new stock spring was about 1" longer than the old spring. Now my "old" RO (the one I'm shooting at Bullseye Matches) feels like my new RO (my "backup gun). It was time to change the recoil spring. However, it did not fix the problem. I...

45acp case damage, new reloader, help

thump_rrr - Don't know if you were responding to me.... ....but I tried what you suggested. One at a time, I tried three different sized, belled, primed Federal cases with no powder nor bullet and had to shake hard for a few seconds to eventually get each one them to shake loose...

45acp case damage, new reloader, help

All this is new to me being mostly a revolver shooter. However, when I first started shooting a 3 1/2" Citadel .45 acp, it was smashing cases like the op's gun. Our local gunsmith suggested that the Citadel's recoil spring was either too light or too heavy for my target loads of 3.8 grains...

NuFinish polish - impact on brass sizing

Nufinish polish also allows easier case belling. New straight-wall pistol cases are sometimes so "clean," that a bit of case lube is needed to allow belling (for the first loading) without galling the inside of the case mouth. Tumbling new cases in Nufinsh solves this problem. JMHO - YRMV

    Possible oversized WLP primers

Lot # DLL857G and # FFL250G seat normally. BTW, I've had my best 1911 groups with WLP primers and intend to continue using them. JMHO - YRMV

    Gas Checked 30-30

Old Grumpy - I have some "ancient" reloading data for 30-30 cast rifle bullets and none of it suggests using IMR 3031 powder. Data from the Lyman 45th Reloading Handbook gives loads for gas-checked, 150 grain cast bullets with fast-burning shotgun powders. With Unique powder, they show...

beginner just bought a lee 30-30 loader. What else do i need?

Safety glasses and a couple of cheap, plastic loading blocks to hold the cases (that way you can check every case to see that each one has powder, and about the same amount of powder). Also, a way to muffle the noise made by "pounding" the rounds together. I had great luck with a "Lee...

    .44mag leading

My favorite gunsmith suggested H-4227 or IMR 4227 to "cure" leading in .41 Mag and .44 Mag when using cast bullets. It worked! I've used 4227 since the early 1970's with excellent results for deer hunting and target shooting to 100 yards. I've found as much variation between lot #'s of...

    Powder Valley's new webpages?

bds, Thanks! How do you get to this page? I've been a customer of Powder Valley for some time, and I've never seen this page. Knowing when they are getting low on the items I use regularly would certainly be an incentive to quickly get in another order. :)

    Primers...

I started "seriously" reloading in the early 1970's (prior to that, I was using a plastic hammer and a "Lee Loader), and never used any other primer than CCI. . Never had a "Dud," but a couple of years ago I got a brick (1K) of small pistol primers that seemed to have been made with small...

    .357 Mag, 45 acp Powders

The OP mentioned the word "stingy." Me too!;) Yes, I try to save every penny, but target accuracy in .357 Mag and .45 ACP is the driving factor in my reloading.... ...therefore, I buy Bullseye powder by the 8lb container.:D It gives me over 2000 shots-per-pound in .38 Special and .357...

    3" 1911

Sounds like you have made your decision. My favorite is a 3 1/2" Citadel. Less than $500. Groups (from sandbags) at 25 yards into less than 3". Good luck on whatever you choose.

    Best carry 1911 uder $1000

<$1,000.00 ? How about <$500.00 New Citadel 3 1/2" 1911 .45 ACP for well less than $500. By my records, I now have over 1,300 rounds through mine and it just keeps getting better.:D I've been using it (because it is so much fun) rather than my 5" 1911, in our IDPA matches (with...

    38/357 new reloader

A big "Amen!" to what ColtPythonElite said: "Once fired .357 brass is tough to come by....IMO, you are about as well off to just order 1k new pieces from Starline and be done with it. It will last you many good years of shooting." I'm doing a "torture test" on a box of 50 Starline .357...

    $600 for a new gun, I'm itching for a 1911....

While I'm waiting for my SR1911 to arrive, I purchased a Citadel 5" 1911 for less than $500 and have had a ball with it. Only have about 400 rounds through it but it s totally reliable and often shoots 10-shot, 25 yard groups of less than 3". LGS then had the Citadel 3 1/2" .45 ACP for...

    Ruger GP100 found for $440?

I paid a bit over $500 for a used 4" GP100 not long ago and was pleased because that particular GP100 has near-perfect barrel/cylinder alignment, timing, etc. etc. If I had not been allowed to carefully examine/measure the gun, I would not have considered paying that much for one. While...
