I have a 3" SP101. It's a great gun, since I ironed out all the bugs. However, if I were you, I'd carry the High Cap .45. You never know when you may be attacked in force by a pack of 2 legged critters. Seriously.
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention how much I like my Mora high carbon knives. But, I also like my S30V and VG10 Spydies. BTW, when I buy a Mora, I put a nice patina on it right out of the package.

If the author rulled out the 30-30 and 7.62X39 for various reasons, then the .223 should also be ruled out for it's lack of killing power of large game animals at just about any distance. Which leaves the 308 caliber as the round to choose.
