thanks guys, im going to order the sights from SA, i like the milspec 3-dots, so if the GI has the same sized tenon as the milspec, im encouraged.
thanks again,
nad
ps- had no idea about the medium tenon
My Father-in-Law needs some 3-dot sights put on his SA GI 1911. I was thinking about taking this project on myself, just staking in a new front sight and replacing the rear, any recommendations on replacement parts?
I dont really want to have the slide sent off and have dovetails cut, so I...
that one must be "newer", my AO WW2(~2001) has angled slide serrations...it's a great piece, surprisingly, but my only regret is that it didnt have the vertical serrations...which would make it a little more authentic
firstly- thanks for your service
secondly i give a +1 to machinist school, i went through a 2-year program (community college) and it greatly improved my understanding of how to work with hand tools right up through manual machinery and CNC machining. it would be a great platform to build a...
hey thanks for all the replies, at first i got a little gun-shy(pun intended) because i too like to have the slide stop to check for a clear gun. the point that i would likely carry this piece and not an extra mag does mitigate the desire for the slide to hold open.
good stuff guys, thanks...
recently i have been pretty serious about questing to find a 1903 hammerless(in .32acp) and have just now realized that after firing the last shot, the slide doesnt lock back...i suppose because it doesnt really have a slide stop [like a1911].
so now, im wondering, how important is this...
love my P6, one of my favorite pieces, and one of the few i actually trust my life with...pull the tirgger, it goes bang- every time
nice to get into a sig for less than $300
my SA mil-spec has some MIM parts, maybe cheaper than a kimber, but still MIM parts, im gradually replacing them with 'better'(read: more expensive) parts
nice purchase, i think you'll enjoy it...my FIL bought one a couple of years ago, had a slight break-in period, but nothing that a few good days slinging lead at the range didnt cure =]
thanks navy, i do have the bug...ive still got to do what i call the "finishing blends"
ill take it to to the range once the weather breaks and make sure it fires like it's spose to, and then ill finish it out and post more pics
i love this thread, i did some benchwork last weekend, what a treat, i think im going to try to snag some stock to do some more with, make some squares and angles...ill take emery cloth and a file any day over a dremel
thanks, that really means a lot...i have to say, i agree with you, more tools, more parts...endless...
i think a big part of being a 1911 owner is really seeing how the da** gun works...i mean, the disconnector? wth? how did this part get envisioned?
i never knew how much there was to a...
Well, after much debate i decided to take my first step into the large world of 1911 tinkering. I got a SA 1911 Mil-Spec Stainless a year or so ago, and decided to make it a platform for a custom pistol. The modifications i wanted were pretty simple, as the Mil-Spec series comes with a generous...
thanks for the replies, my FIL is going to put a call in to kimber, maybe they will have some wisdom to impart...otherwise we might try a box of 230g and see what happens
thanks again,
