This will be my first year. Only shooting the Garand match this year. Will consider others next year, but have competed locally once so far (89-1x, 87-1x, 53-0 OUCH; agg 229-2x) and have a goal of shooting 250 or better. Still need to get a room somewhere out there for Friday night. Going to...
Thanks rcmodel, I read the Hodgdon data for that projectile and figured it might be about the same as the 185gr XTP. I was going to use somewhere between the mfg and the Hornady data.
Can't you resize .303 British to be .30-40? I thought this was a way to do it. That's what the owner of a Model 1893 Gatling gun, chambered in .30-40 was doing, if i recall correctly.
sniper, you could just get a pre-made motor shaft adapter from McMaster-Carr ;)
The key is finding the right motor for the job, and I think I've found one for about $40.
The carbide pistol die doesn't have anything to do with crimping or not.
Check out the videos that Lee has on their website about adjusting a bullet seating die.
They show how to adjust the seating die:
Take a casing and place it in the shellholder. Raise the ram and then screw the...
Mongoose, this is exactly something I was thinking of doing but would use an AC motor mounted to a board. The motor needs a 1/4" shaft to match what the Possum Hollow has (great little Christmas gift :D). I would be able to make an enclosure to catch the brass shavings, as well. Rubber feet...
Where is the best place to find one of those little AC motors to make, say, a case trimmer or something that runs a deburring tool? Instead of constantly running the cordless drill.
What kind of specs would the motor need?
Has anyone made a case trimmer/deburr tool? I saw one a few pages...
The reason I do it is that it's just a little more force on the Lee resizing die that ends up pushing the "unbreakable" decapper upwards so it doesn't "break".
It's almost like the failsafe is too safe. So I pop the primer first due to the design of the die.
mongoose, I've seen the...
Yep, I put a universal decapper in station one which worked just fine... And yes, I didn't check. Lesson learned, nothing harmed.
Next up - Lee resizing die barely has enough threads on it to hold onto the LNL bushing. But it works, so I can hold off on buying a Hornady die set (for now).
It isn't rubbing the black off of the neck except for a tiny ring around the top, almost looks like a crimp. Just did another one to verify on the LNL.
I then set the Lee single stage back up and it rubs the black off of the neck completely when the die is turned in to contact the shellholder...
Does anybody else use Lee dies on the Hornady LNL AP press?
It seems that the .223 Full Length sizing die isn't bumping the shoulder back at all. I placed the brass above a candle to blacken the shoulder/neck area. I then resized it. The black is gone from the side of the case, but remains...
Do exactly what orrwdd said to do. Lee has a video on their website that shows this exact procedure. Place the casing in the shellholder and raise the ram. Screw the seating die in until contact with the case mouth. Lower the ram and do 1/2 of a turn further. Then adjust the seating depth...
After looking at each of the PTX inserts from Hornady, the single solution of the PowderFunnel might do the trick.
Either the Powder Cop or the lockout die will be on my list next time with the .45 shellplate and more LNL bushings. Gotta unload some of the Lee Breech lock bushings now!
I got it from Midway - $406 minus a $30 off orders over 300 coupon (304102, good til the 25th).
$376 and a $28 shellplate #16 for .223.
Dang, I should've bought a few of those springs now that I think of it, but I will need to get the #45 shellplate and other stuff. Oh well. Next month...
Thanks for the recommendations, all. This is good info for anyone else looking for info as well. I skipped all of the goodies (for now, mostly for the credit card's sake!) and will just start with .223 at the moment. Maybe next month will allow for some accessories.
I use W231 and Titegroup for .45 (and 9mm). I use RE15 and Varget (thus far) for .223 but would like to try H335 sometime (if I find reviews that say H335 doesn't leak in the Hornady powder measure).
So the use of extruded powders would cause problems for the .223? Interesting. The Lee...
