    Tumbling cases???

The same crud shows up on my .223 cases from time to time (usually in lighter loads). I usually ignore it unless it looks like it'll gum up the die. I don't think you ran the tumbler long enough--I only run for 3 hrs if my brass was really clean to begin with, or for pistol cases. I usually...

    Should I be Ticked Off?

What 'extras' did you get? You may be comparing apples to oranges. If the RCBS setup came with 4 sets of dies, a 1010 scale, powder measure on a stand, etc, then you probably did fine. That Hornady may have been stripped down or missing parts, which would cost significantly more to get you up...

what kind of gun owner/shooter/ person are you?

I'm a mutt--part hillbilly (a special breed of redneck), part refined. Grew upa suburbanite in East Tennessee in a town of 30k, learned to hunt when I was 8, got my first bolt action around that age; learned to shoot bow age 9, competed in IBO (International Bowhunters Org) nationals age 10...

    Cool Targets

My usual go-to is 20 oz. old soda bottles. My friend works at a place where they have to 'dispose' of bottles past the sell-by date. He has about 15 flats sitting in his office... Other targets regularly on the menu: -Old vegetables -Bad textbooks -Tannerite -milk jugs -fire extinguisher...

    Hardwood Loading Blocks

bullseye, one thing I prefer to do when I make my blocks is to "step cut" the holes - I go through and do 1/2" holes for '06, .308, etc, and then drill (i think 3/8") holes inside the shallower 1/2" holes. The 3/8" is for .223, but are quite snug. My blocks are usually milled to roughly 3/4...

I know it's off-topic but I couldn't help but chuckle at this. Reminds me exactly why I don't want to be an OB/GYN :D

Shooting Aspirin on The Bill Dance Show

I haven't seen the Bill Dance one, but 'Sharpshooters' on the History Channel shows a slo-mo video of Tom Knapp nailing an aspirin mid-air with a .22. They replay it occasionally, usually on Saturday mornings.

    Looking for a tumbler

I'm a big fan of the Lyman 1200. Extremely quiet and holds a gallon which is sufficient for me. Paid about $60 but you can find them cheaper elsewhere. The Cabelas special would probably be my second choice, or the FA.

    Primer Availability

Nothing most of you don't already know: http://blog.sinclairintl.com/2009/05/12/primer-availability-2/ "Primer Availability We have had a lot of concerned customers calling to ask about primer availability. Actually, our lines have been flooded with calls regarding the availability of...

Do you write in your load manuals?

I highlight my main loads but don't write in the books. I bought a Moleskine book and keep all my reload/test data in there. Plus, I've started to staple my reload cards to the test targets so I can go back and look at how well my loads did (or in some cases....didnt :()

    Holy %$&#! I Got Varget!

thats why I left the other 6 jugs behind. I couldve been really :evil: , but decided to allow others the chance to score some too. And oddly enough, I have more primers than powder to load for. The opposite problem of most people!

    Holy %$&#! I Got Varget!

So my buddy and I were on lunch break at a local ammo store and they were wiped out (big surprise). As we were about to walk out the owner backed his truck up to the door and the store worker said 'oh he must have some of the production run from this week. He won't back up unless there's alot...

    snake rounds

I think a pet mongoose would be the best deterrent. I've never had to shoot one but big sticks do wonders:D. I would think that rat shot wouldn't have enough power and that a .410 would be best. You can actually buy a .410 Snake Charmer, so going by the name I'd assume a .410 is the best...

    Interstate Travel and reloading components

Can you travel across the country via car with powder and primers? I know commercial shipments have to follow Haz-Mat rules, but I'm wondering if I can carry less than 25 lbs and 10K primers in a private vehicle. Does the car have to be placarded? Any special precautions (other than not...

Range Scrounge Brass...to keep or not to keep?

I appreciate all the information. Usually I scrutinize my range brass pretty well. But I got a little nervous when I heard a few THR members mention that they leave their dead (aka non-salvageable) reloading brass at the range.

Range Scrounge Brass...to keep or not to keep?

So I've heard both sides of the story - One side says scrounge as much range brass as you can find, separate, inspect, and reload. The other side says don't scrounge because alot of range brass is cast off from other reloaders who have used their brass 5-6 times. Whenever I scrounge I...

    Anybody use Lee Classic Loader???

The Lee Loader was the first thing I started with. It was fun and for less than ~200 rounds a month is a great tool. Any more than that, especially for pistol, it might be worthwhile to consider a progressive... A single stage isn't much faster than a whack-a-mole kit, but it is quieter and...
