    damp powder

You may have fouling or corrosion buildup in the flash channel that is restricting how much flame gets to the powder. Clean that out first. (Remove nipple, pipe cleaner, nipple pick, canned air, etc.) Pyrodex is harder to ignite than real BP. That is why it is classified as a propellant rather...

Pietta brass frame 58 Remingtom dimensional accuracy?

If you make a holster to fit the Pietta Remington it will be big enough for all the others. The Uberti is slightly smaller in girth. The ASP/Euroarms Remingtons are even smaller but they all fit in my Remington size holsters but are too snug for the Colt holsters.

    Traditions Hawken Woodsman anchors Muley!

What?!?!?! Just a measly 3 point? :>) Just kidding. Looks like a fatso buck with lots of tallow that can be used for lube. Beautiful beast. Roughly, where were you hunting?

Question about new brass framed 1851 Navy by Pietta

I've noticed that different vintages of brass framed Colt's revolvers have different thicknesses of the recoil ring. The thin ringed ones get peened by the cylinder sooner as the surface area is less. Driftwood: That photo of your brasser is the gun for which I fell in love at first sight as a...

Question about new brass framed 1851 Navy by Pietta

I've got a couple of brasser Colt's revolvers and they seem to be smoother without any tuning than steel frames. The hammer, right wing of the bolt & the hand wear into their place quickly. I do not exceed 20grs in my 44s and so far, so good but Ive got about 14 other C&Bs so the brassers are...

I think a "replica" Ruger old army would sell like hotcakes- do you?

Just adding a bushing onto the front of the cylinder to deflect fouling away from the cylinder pin greatly enhances the Remington and puts it very close to the ROA for reliability.

    Uberti Walker with target

Do what crawdad1 says and cut the hammer sight notch a little bit to the LEFT to line the sight picture up with where the ball are hitting. You are only going to need about 2 inches of windage correction on the hammer notch. It'll just be a couple hundredths. The formula for sight correction...

Just how dangerous is a chain-fire?

About half way through the article is a discussion and photos to simulate an out of battery chain fire of a chamber. http://www.brimstonepistoleros.com/articles/capping.html

    Anyone rolling their own?

When I used paper cartridges I always had some tweezers handy. Eventually I just took the paper cartridges and broke them open to dump the powder into the chambers and ram the rest of the cartridges home. That blew out the paper consistently. I now just use a cylinder flask where I charge 6, wad...

Anyone have an old beat-up 1858 cylinder ?

Here's a nicely done article dealing with C&B chambers firing out of battery as in a chainfire or in a cylinder not lined up with a barrel: http://www.brimstonepistoleros.com/articles/capping.html

    Cut down a Zouave?

The Antonio Zoli zouaves were the best made so chop whichever isn't a Zoli. For a while Zoli made a "Buffalo Hunter" for Navy Arms that was a sporterized Zouave with a 26" barrel. Mine has a dovetailed front and rear sight but I don't know if that is stock since I bought it used. My Zouave has a...

    Spiller and Burr Malfunctions

I would first recommend putting one or two drops of oil right where the front of the cylinder rubs on the frame at the cylinder pin. I do this on my Uberti Remingtons right after seating the balls before capping. A little twirl of the cylinder while holding the muzzle up works the oil down onto...

    Colt Barrel Alignment

Rodwa, The older Armi San Marco Colts have a short arbor. I use a folded over sheet of copy (.0035" X 2) paper or a piece of card stock paper of .007" as a feeler gauge to set the cylinder gap as I tap the wedges in. That way they hold the same POA. Some day I'll correct the arbor length but...

Loading lever latch on my 1858 broke and fell off.

Rodwa, I don't think the barrel would be turned enough to affect your gap significantly. We're only talking a couple of degrees. Here's a copy & paste of an email I sent back in 2001 on this subject of barrel turning: If your gun is a Pietta you can rotate the barrel alittle bit to change...

Loading lever latch on my 1858 broke and fell off.

Rodwha, I heard from the late Tom Ball who accurized many a repro for the N-SSA that Uberti epoxied the barrels in the frame but Pietta did not. He coached me as to how to turn the barrel on a Pietta Remington to correct a windage problem. Ubertis have a dovetailed front sight so you don't need...
