    US Army back to 1911?

I do not think you will see a large military contract for 1911 pistols, now or in the future. Any 1911's or other .45 ACP pistols will remain a speciality item for a small number of units.

Which is the better DUTY or Combat handgun

From the tabs I've kept on things, what I've seen and experienced, first hand reports, etc. I will say HK first and then Walther, picked Walther for the poll since HK was not available. These are the most consistent in reliability and durability the past 15 years and current - least amount of...

Hogue rubber grip and the P226

Maybe look at doing the E2 conversion that a lot of people rave about. I think I've seen a kit to do it on your own for $50 or less. EDIT: one of the spots, not sure if it is in stock or not... https://www.gtdist.com/ProductDetail.aspx?PartNumber=SIG-GRIPKIT-226-E2

looking to choose a different caliber for ccw

Just putting 800 FMJ rounds through it to ensure the pistol really is reliable and won't have any problems (most recommend 1,000 rounds) - about $400 for .357 SIG or 10mm Add another $90+ to test function with your chosen HP round and have two mags loaded with it ready for carry. Put that...

    Toughest Choice Ever

If it's just for a range/fun gun you can just fondle both (hopefully shoot also) and go with your gut. If it's for carry or primary firearm for home defense, there is no contest - go with what is proven and recommended by professionals. Stack the odds in your favor as much as possible.

    9 MM or 40 S&W

A lot of misinformation in this thread - much of it debunked years ago, but some how still kicking and being passed around as factual or relevant.

Kimber 1911s Prove So Fragile & Unreliable, N.C. Law Enforcement Agency Scraps Them

They are hooking themselves up with nice guns every 3 years or so, easy case to solve. A couple years from now they will order up some M&P45's or HK45's and sell off the current issue to themselves for $200-300.

Suggest a full-frame gun for me that's not a Glock or 1911 variant?

You can get a USP Tactical used around $800-900. Basically a more realistically sized and priced MK23 (not exactly though). It will fulfill that itch and have accuracy and reliability that is as good as it gets.

Would you buy a Hi Point?

My way to decide on a firearm - Have a budget, make a list of the ones which have a stellar reputation, desired features, have great personal experience with, etc. that fit within the budget. Whether the budget is $500, $800, or $1,200 - pretend as if every make/model is the same price. Get...

Why do HK owners think HK's are better than Glocks?

mbruce, you are right. This is why Glock put pistols in LE holsters for dirt cheap. Todd Green is one of the top trainers and consultants in the business. Used to be the head trainer at the SIG Academy and worked and is well known. People thinking HK pistols are over-priced and not knowing...

Why do HK owners think HK's are better than Glocks?

JShirley, the people who use the pistols for what they are designed for have a very high opinion of them. For every 3 gunner/gun store owner/internet debater who doesn't like them, I'm sure there is another one that does. Some people forget these things are weapons first and foremost. All the...
