    Diffs in ammo brands?

Yes. And within a given brand as well. Further a given firearm may "like," even "prefer" one brand over another. And the same firearm from earlier or later in production be different, too.

Does anyone own an Inland ILM170 30 Carbine?

Auction prices are all over the place. I saw, this last Saturday, a table with several legit Inland WWII Carbines for US$1200-1400; all were in good or better condition. That vendor had a very legit early-war National Postal Meter Carbine for what, given the rarity & scarcity, was a pretty...

    Naval Rifles

Cool coincidence, I have toured both of those. Alabama is the last of the South Dakota class ships built. She carries the Mk 6 16"/45 rifles. I've been to her sister, Massachusetts, over in Fall River, MA. I've toured all three of the Fletchers preserved in the US. Cassin Young probably...

    Naval Rifles

It wound up much more complicated than that. Turns out that non-precision shore bombardment could be a very good thing in case an opposed amphibious landing was wanted. (It's also has utility for unopposed landings once those are discovered and responded to.) Problem being that hitting the...

    My Latest Acquisition: Astra A-70

Definitely feels right, and the recoil really, really evokes the way a Star BM feels to shoot, where it's a compact, but "sturdy" more than "heavy" in the hand.

what won't you won't shoot at (and why)

I also avoid those. Further, I'm disinclined to shot towards anything with a ricochet risk, which includes water surfaces. Junk appliances and cars are also not first on my list for both leaving bad debris and shards, and also to decrease ricochet risk.

    22lr to 5.56

Actually, a complete upper is likely wanted, depending on whether the lower has a buffer or not (not really needed for 22lr) Now, a home-built lower fitted to a 22lr upper might have the buffer tube, and it would just be empty. Then, you'd need the spring & buffer elements (and, potentially...

Entirely satisfactory :D What it will tell most Texans is that you are near both great BBQ and great TexMex (But, you might not respond to "¿Jak se mas?")

Now, you know that's a bit of tease, "South Texas" is anywhere from Marfa to Edinburg, or Ozona to Boca Chica :)

    Defend the Constitution?

Well, there's the very real problem of conflation, one of the sad consequences of "credentialism." If a person mops the floors of the Post Office, does that mean that they represent official USPS policy? Keeping this more to THR, there are those out there who believe, fervently, that "recoil"...

Well, It Was a Good (enough) Day at the FW Gun Show

Got a late start, but that worked in my favor, given all the activities this we in "The Cultural District." Rather a lot of folk wandering around the aisles. Not a ton of buying going on, but enough to keep the vendors busy. Say many interesting things. Like the example of a Beretta .25...

    Naval Rifles

And, it's a bit of a left-over from when projectile range far outpaced visual targeting range. So, a designer might want less-long rifles (this saves weight directly, and in length of the ship) rather than longer. Now, the stumpier rifles needed more elevation than their longer cousins, which...

    IWB Holster Design

Like our esteemed @Spats McGee I've got a Stealth Gear holster coming for my SIG 365 to contrast it with my current CB SuperTuck. That Ventcore 2.0 could be a real winner, and being on sale made it all the nicer. Your Mileage May Vary. Now, one of the things I have always liked about my...

    Gun safe makeover questions

Trickiest part is often the "bits" attached to our rifles--like scopes and bipods and the like. Figuring out the actual space needed versus space provided is part of "safe Tetris" and we all go though it.

I don't want a Sig P365. Tell me why I'm wrong or offer options.

Quite literally how I do it. There were some early-on packages for the 12s that looked lie they were 10s with an extension--those were sweet to pick up as "open box."

I don't want a Sig P365. Tell me why I'm wrong or offer options.

Well, this is not the Borg, there are solutions to fit nearly everyone out there. Which is good in one way--there's a Goldilocks out there for each of us. It's bad in that you may have to eat a lot of too hot and too cold porridge and sleep in too many too hard and too soft beds to find the...

    Offhand shooting practice

There are scads of flamewarriors out there that would champion the bottom three as their "Wun ainch grupp" and not bother with a photo "kaus theys Moe-Ah." Position shooting is a thing. And it wants appreciating as a thing. Realistically only 3 of those are out of the A zone. Which is quite...

Now, using the smaller rare-earth magnets to hold mag pouches would help isolate the mags from the magnets. (And would help where a person had no-ferrous, or polymer mags.)

    7.62x39 v. 7.62x51 short range wounding differences

The US Army people with stars on their personal flags ended WWII with something of a fixation on Known Distance shooting at extreme ranges (and on pristine range facilities). And doctrinally, the US had a fifty year habit of shooting MG ammo in their rifles. These were flip sides to...
