    Identifying Old S&W top breaks

It is the kind with exposed hammer, both DA and SA, and with only one cylinder stop bolt notch for each chamber. The gun is about three weeks away from me, I'll post serial number and patent dates when it arrives, might try to post a picture as well. Thanks you for your response so far!

I have recently aquired an old S&W double action 38S&W topbreak. What I can find on the net identyfies it as a 3rd issue model 2. I find some info about New style and Old style hammers and triggers, how do I find out wich kind of hammer and trigger mine is? Any help is appreciated!

S&W mod 13-1 cylinder will not open

Even thou the ejector rod unscrewing itselft is the most likely explanation for the problems you are experiencing, once in a while you run into a gun where the center rod pushing on the locking bolt is a tiny bit too short. This can be remedied by trimming the ejector rod SLIGHTLY, best done in...

    Desert Eagle gas system question.

The makers of the DE say we only are supposed to fire jsp or jhp bullets, to avoid bullets with lead exposed in the base, which supposedly will foul/block the gas system over time.. What makes me wonder is this: Why is this not a problem in other gas-operated mechanisms? AKs? Mini14? UScarbine...

    10mm 1911 conversion

Does the 10mm have a different frame ramp angle than the other calibers? Thinking about fitting a 10mm top to one of my pistols. I am aware of the difference between the 45acp and the 9x19 ramp, with the 9mm having a steeper angle, but what does the 10mm ramp look like?

    1911A1 slide fit help needed

Id weld up the lower barrel-lugs and refit the barrel if that proves to be the issue. Doesnt need to be expensive if youre willing to read up on barrelfitting, and get someone to weld up the lugs.

    double barrel blues

Have seen the same on some old cheap european shotguns. A friend of mine inhereted a beligan(dont remember the maker) with just the same problem. We took it apart to check- it was not damaged in any way, just made that way. I dont know if the makers didnt know or didnt care to make a mechanism...

Differences in AMTs and other 1911s?

If I remember correctly, some AMTs had different ejectors than normal 1911's. Belive they were spot-welded instead of pinned.

    tools for basic 1911 gunsmithing

use your lathe to make your own jig, and use files and emerypaper to shape the frame. stay away from the powertools, they can mess things up pretty fast. if you are good with hand tools you dont need a mill, some good files and stones, knowledge and patience can go a long way. buy...

    Gunsmithing the remington 1100

Ive been tinkering with 1911's for years, and have found this forum to be very informative on technical info about the 1911.. When searching for gunsmithing info on the remington 1100, i dont find that much- can anybody direct me to a source? I have access to the kuhnhausen- manual, but...

    Barrel crown on the cheap

The brass-screw and grinding compund works well, but does not give totally 90degrees to the bore. anyway, it ususally shoots great. a note on the piloted cutters from brownells: the pilots they sell almost never fit the bore well, and a good pilot/bore-fit is essential to get a chatter-free...

    Did I ruin my barrel?

hardness testing easiest way to see if the barrel is "hardened" is to use a file... since you probably have to refinish the thing anyway.

    parts interchangeability on winchester shotguns

thanks, since we live in norway, and many companies dont wanna send parts out of the US, picking parts off the gun without barrel seems like the easiest solution.. are the action-bars on the defender of the same length as the ones on a 1300 with the normal length magazine tube?

    parts interchangeability on winchester shotguns

A friend of mine has a winchester defender, with at broken forearm/actionbar(dont know the proper word, its the arms that connect the forearm and the bolt) A have been offered a worn winchester 1300 without barrel, that we can take all parts off. will parts from the 1300 fit the defender...
