Which rifle caliber to buy next

260 rem has gotten my attention lately. Holds it's own at 1000 yards as a target caliber with considerable less recoil than a 300 win mag. If you question it's ability as a hunting round, it is basically a modern 6.5 x 55, which has been around in use in Europe forever.

What's your age group and what do you carry?

39, Sig P238. Voted as 1911 platform, but it is not a true 1911.

    44 magnum

Thanks for the information. 300 grain is what I was thinking about. I am relatively new to 44 mag and wanted to have an idea what I could expect.

    44 magnum

I am looking to reload some 44 magnums. I have been shooting 240 gr at about 1350 fps. Was looking at loading some heavier rounds around 1000 fps or so. Can anyone give any info comparing recoil of this type of load to what I have been shooting? To be worth while, I will want to order a large...

    Hog Rifle

I use a Marlin 1895 (45/70) with 400 grainers. Leupold Hog scope. Hit them just about any location at any angle and they will not go far! Using the low end on that scope, you can keep both eyes open for shots up close or in the brush.

Do you have any need for a shotgun or is the carbine superior in your mind?

I go with a carbine. The wife is intimidated by a shotgun recoil and refuses to practice with one. She will, however, use and practice with an AR. Enough studies show a 55 gr round going through fewer layers of Sheetrock than a 12ga with 00 buck. That said, the shotgun is relegated to...

    Gun safes?

I recently purchased a safe from Steel Water Safes. I decided that it was crazy to have as much tied up in guns, and not have a secure place to store them. Everything was as advertised and was exactly what I ordered. You can check them out at www.steelwatergunsafes.com If you do much...

What have YOU used for hogs?

Have shot quite a few over the years. One of the largest was 250 lb sow with a .223, DRT. Most recently shot 2 with one round from a 45/70 at about 85 yards. 405 grain bullet went clean through both. They weighed about 125 lbs each.

    Looking for a Pocket Pistol

I have a G27, and there is no way I can carry it in a pocket. (I am 6'4" and about 195lbs.) It is thick and on the heavy side for me. I have a Sig P238 that I pocket carry almost every day. If you like 1911s, you will like the P238. It is a dream to shoot. It is the favorite pistol for my...

    Marlin 45-70

I have a "standard" 1895 with a 22" barrel. I really thought I wanted the 18" barrel, but really like the 22" barrel after owing this one. Contrary to general thinking regarding recoil, the heavier 405 grain remington rounds are what I like the most, as opposed to lighter bullets. The...

    Commander 1911 in 9mm

I have a buckmark in .22, so that solves the realy cheap plinking role. As I stated above, I have a 5" 1911, but my daily cary is a Sig P238. I am going to buy another gun, and the commander size will be a nice addition to the rotation, whether in 9mm or 45acp. Of the two, I will be able to...

    Commander 1911 in 9mm

I am interested in a Commander size 1911 in 9mm. I already have a 5" 1911 in .45, but as ammo prices are crazy for .45, think I would like one in 9mm. I know some will say reload for the .45, but that is not an option currently. Any recommendations, as well as reasoning, would be appreciated...

S&W 380 body guard or Sig sauer P238

I have had a P238 for almost 2 years. It hides in the pocket without a problem. I cary it in a Don Hume pocket holster, and it just disappears, even in a pair of Levi's. The single action trigger is tough to beat.

No concealed cary in Hilton hotels?

I never said I was unarmed in the room. Only that I left my pocket cary gun locked in my vehicle. My pocket pistol is a .380, so I usually carry a 1911 .45acp in my luggage.

No concealed cary in Hilton hotels?

Every door I saw, front and sides, had the signage. Both English and Spanish. I had the same question about the room being your "home." I can't see it being any different than renting an appartment.

No concealed cary in Hilton hotels?

On a weekend trip to Houston, my wife used Priceline for our hotel. We ended up at the Hilton near the Galleria. After dropping my wife off at the door, I parked the truck and started to walk inside. That is when I noticed the signage on the doors. In all of the legal requirements, (30.06...
