HI Sabastian. I never have checked that. I just assumed the hammer was up. When I was cleaning the Vepr tonight I put some grease on the parts that looked worn. Where the finish was scraped off. Maybe that will help.

thanks sabastian. It did not function straight out of the box. I am so frustrated that I paid 800 bucks for this thing and it does not function. I don't think I will ever buy a foreign made gun again. I am very surprised that I am not seeing any negative reviews for the Vepr 12.
