Lot's of stuff being tracked - I had no idea.
That's all good information to consider.
I didn't realize the amount of detail that some of you have. Still, it seems the primary reason is still theft reporting and insurance compensation.
Thanks for sharing.
If so, why do you do it, or why don't you do it?
Is there some magic number of firearms that you collect that makes this an invaluable tool of some sort?
The only thing I can think of is as a record of the serial number should it get stolen. Wouldn't keeping the receipts/paper work be...
PT145 may have been my next CCW...
... were it not for a recent purchase.
My wife picked up Kel-Tec PF-9 (9mm, 7+1 capacity). It is a fine handgun. After trying it out in a holster, I find it to be a a very compact and competent package. You won't find a more affordable alternative either...
Thanks. More clarification.
There's no 6 shot requirement. That would just be a bonus feature. 5 shots is enough.
The hammerless requirement is absolute. I have to cut down on the likelihood of the operator fiddling with it and any chance of snagging in a purse. The weight of the gun...
This is for bedside and possible in-the-purse concealed carry. Light weight is NOT preferred. It's likely to be loaded with .38 ammo. Something with similar stats to this:
Hammerless design - Less to think about and less likely to snag.
.357 - Preferred for versatility and added weight to...
Wow, lots of good points here.
For some reason, I had it in my head that the AR action had some inherent accuracy advantages over a bolt gun. The general feeling I'm getting from this is that a bolt action is the better way to go, especially for the longer ranges where a .25 MOA to .5 MOA...
Would one be better off starting with an AR-10 (any manufacturer) based platform or a bolt gun like a Remington 700, or similar?
Which is likely to have better accuracy out-of-the-box?
With a total budget of $2000.00 for gun & modifications, ignoring the cost of any optics, which can be...
My thoughts exactly. I'm thinking that I could add a vertical stripe to the middle of the front sight and keep the factory orange paint on the left and right I'm not sure what to do on the rear sight. Currently, that is just flat black. Should it be just accentuated with a dash on the left...
Should I do it?
Do you have any good suggestions/alternatives?
I found paint at Brownells to do the job:
http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/productdetail.aspx?p=1480&st=sight%20paint&s=#specs
Specifically, I'm thinking about getting the "Ghost Glow Kit".
It will be used for home...
I mixed up a batch of Ed's Red without the lanolin. I use it for general gun cleaning and I like it very much. This batch has Equal parts ATF, Kerosene, Mineral Spirits & Acetone. I also mixed up the compatible gun oil of 4oz ATF & 4oz Kerosene.
I now want to make a less agressive version...
My Witness 45ACP works dandy
I have all red followers in my 3 factory mags. They are all 10 rounders (post-ban style). They all work fine. My 9mm conversion came with one wrong mag (357 sig) and a preban mag for the small frame witness that didn't work. I sent the (357 sig) back for a free...
More felony baloney.
<I am not a lawyer, so don't use this as part of your opening statement in a trial>
In Ohio, a CCW permit holder who is actively carrying and following all the rules, like the "in plain sight" carry rule in a car, can still commit a fellony. If they are pulled over for...
Thanks
I appreciate all the advice. I plan to disasemble everything including the bolt rather than baking or boiling. I'm fond of using brake cleaner as it will held prep the metal surafaces for blueing (after I test it first). I like to know that all the parts are present and unbroken...
Firing pin
That firing pin tip is EXACTLY the information I wanted to here. More nuggets of wisdom are welcome. :)
I'm a big fan of reconditioning the original wood stocks, so the accessory stock options aren't a big deal. Good to know though. I might go with a peep sight though. The...
Akron show
I was there, I heard it was a primer only, no case no bullet, just a... PEN?!?. I guess they were checking the firing pin. Whatever.
back on topic. I picked up a Yugo SKS in Akron for $95 out the door. Can with a few extras but nothing exciting.
I know this should be a solid gun but what should I look for when cleaning it? Meaning, what should I do to make sure it is properly functioning? Also, what can I do to get the most out of this puppy?
I already have all the info from surplusrifle.com and I've already done full disassembly...
CETME
Purchase an HK91 wood stock set like I did. With minor adjustments, it works on my CETME just fine. The sling options are much better as well. Alternately, you could buy my black stock set dirt cheap.
