I'd say .223. I've taken many deer with 55 gr SP's. I know it works. Yet, I read many opinions that say it isn't up to the task. Accurate shot placement is the key - no matter what the caliber.

Shot placement can not be over sold with these smaller calibers. I carry the surplus FN FMJ flat nose exclusively in my little pocket gun. Its reliable for feed and function. I trust it to do its job if I do mine. Out West

Find yourself a S&W 4013. Sweet piece of gun work. Thin, so it conceals easy. Alloy frame, so its not too heavy to carry all day. Reliable and accurate, in case you actually have to use it. Not made any more, but can be found at gun shows or on the boards. Out West
