0.357 Loads

163 grain flat base FN Cast Lead bullet. No gas check.
Shooting to 50 yards.
Would welcome loading data please.
I have been using Alliant 2400 behind a 158 grain jacketted bullet.
Can this powder be used behind a cast lead bullet ???

Check your loading manuals and the powder manufacturer's data. Take any data posted on the internet with caution. I never use info posted on boards such as this. It's a recipe for disaster IMO.

I won't provide any loading data, but you asked if 2400 powder can be used with a plain based cast bullet. The answer is most definetly.......yes.

2400 will most definitely work with cast bullets. I like others will suggest some combinations but no exact load data. May be hard case if guy uses.my load, mis reads his scale and sues me. But truthfully not my biggest concern. Every gun is different and it takes very little work to find a load each gun likes. Now if you are trying to.shrink a dime sized 100 yard group another 1/10th of an inch. My data definitely won't do it for you. My procedures and techniques will help but every rifle has its own personality

Hard to think of a better powder to start with given your bullet type, design, and material and the cartridge you're loading.

One other train of thought tho' is that for just fun 50-yard plinking rounds from a .357 cast load you can, with the proper amount of Unique, go just subsonic and that would be a really accurate load and a joy to shoot.

I shoot flat base cast (w-w) from a .357 Handi-Rifle that chrono 980-fps and are as fun and quiet as shooting a rimfire rifle only with a lot more whallup.

2400 is, IMO, the best magnum powder for plain lead bullets in 357. I load 14.5 gr under a 158gr swc.

As to can you use 2400 with cast bullets? Just remember, 2400 was around and being used in the .357 Magnum when there were no other bullets but lead.
