Last night I introduced a guy in his late 20s to shooting. He has never fired a gun in his life. He shot a .22 semi pistol, a .38, 357 revolvers, and 9mm semi pistol. He shot very well keeping most shots in a 4" group at 7 yards. There a few dropped shot due to a bit of flinching.

He doesn't think that he will become a shooter, or even buy a gun but he feels he understands how guns work and how to shoot, own and store one safely should he ever change his mind. Most importantly he had a good time, and may even talk a few friends into learning to shoot as well.

Well done!

Good job!

I took a friend from work shooting as well. Now he's applying for Florida CCW :D

Add my GF.

We're +3 !!!

Congratulations! I did the same thing last year with a 38 year old friend.

His previous shooting experience had been a 12 gauge when he was 10 years old. No wonder it took him 28 years to want to try shooting again!

Started him out with a S&W .22 revolver, then .22 Colt and Ruger semi-autos. I moved him up to .38 spl in my Dan Wesson. He really liked that but I got a BIG GRIN from him when I loaded the .357 magnum rounds. I warned him that it was Dr. Jekll and Mr. Hyde time. He loved the boom and flame. Finally, the 10mm Springfield Omega. We stepped up to each new gun/round at HIS pace.

He's now bugging me to shoot my .45 ACP 1911(s) and would like to buy his own handgun when he can scrounge up the funds.

Keep fighting the good fight

inroducing new people to our sport (and making sure that they have fun) is the best way to secure the future of our sport.

Mentoring new shooters...

To me, more rewarding than shooting itself. I start them off with a .22, and depending how that goes, we'll try a.22 Mag, .38Spl, then a .357 Mag. If all goes well, then I'll get out the 12-gauge.

You did a good thing introducing a new shooter to our sport.

Great job! Even if he never buys a gun, he's at least had a bit of first-hand experience with them and will be less likely to fall for the tricks of the gun haters.
