2 deer huh

first I don't see an exit on either of those doe? second its not a good shot if you didn't see the second standing there. 2nd rule of safety know your target and what is beyond it

The bullet completely passed through the first doe, and about 3/4 through the second. You don't see an exit wound because its on the other side of the deer.

I knew that there were trees and a hillside behind the deer. Absolutely no danger to anybody else.

And you can tell by looking at the entrance wounds on both deer that they were nearly perfectly lined up. I doubt anybody would be able to see a 1 or 2 inch difference in the outline of the deer Looking through open sights at 75 yards into the woods.

I'm going to start calling this the "can't post **** forum" because it seems like anytime someone posts anything, the holier than thou crowd shows up.

I agree fireman... you can tell looking at those shots the deer had to be standing exactly next to each other. I've seen deer do this quite a bit.

but you know... you should be more careful... there could have been a black panther or chupacabra standing on the other side of that first doe JUST as easily.... :D

not to mention that they are both fairly large specimens!

As a general rule, if your rifle is longer than your deer, it is not a 'fairly large specimen'.

350 @ 2400 ? What was the pressure ? It must have had a bite at both ends !
45-70s are great and a single shot is all you need ! But I only use a mere 300 Win Partition.

Lets just say that it is above max and I wouldn't shoot it in anybody else's gun.

The 45-70 has a lot more room to work with than what the manuals say.
(Insert disclaimer of choice here)

My dad got 2 deer with one shot using a 30-06. The bullet passed through the buck he shot and the doe on the other side which had been trailing behind slightly only had an entrance wound.

When we looked for the bullet there was none to be found. What killed the doe was a piece of rib bone from the buck!

Fireman -
That being said, can you PM me your load info? I just got one of those H&R's and I've read some back & forth on just how stout you can load one safely.
